“I have an appointment to see Dr Singh at 2pm” Hannah said as she handed the receptionist the referral from her GP.  Hannah had recently been experiencing some unusual muscle weakness which had raised some concern and prompted her GP to refer Hannah to a neurologist.“Thank you, Dr Singh is running slightly behind today” the receptionist admitted.  “Please take a seat”. Hannah made her way to the waiting room. At just 35 years of age, she felt self-conscious using a mobility walker, but without it, her recent muscle weakness meant she was vulnerable to falls and tiring quickly.As Hannah sat herself in the waiting room chair, she felt the gaze of other patients upon her.  Nervously she looked up to be met by the warm smiles of two fellow patients who looked at her knowingly.  There was something in their smiles that demonstrated that they understood her predicament and it instantly put her at ease.“Good morning” one of the patients said “my name is Kai ….don’t worry, walkers and wheelchairs are all the trend here! This is Ben and we have been chatting about why we are here.  It looks like you might be in a similar position.  What neurological problem brings you here today?”Hannah was normally quite reserved but the welcoming smiles of Kai and Ben immediately put her at ease. She had been scared and anxious over the past weeks, trying to make sense of the symptoms she was experiencing.
