Mr Ho, Departmental Operational Manager (DOM) of the Accident & Emergency Department (AED) - The North District Hospital (NDH). On 8 Oct 2020 at 09:00 am, he went to work as usual. After arriving at his office, he approved and signed some vacation leave applications for his staff. He then had an interview with Apple Daily News at 0930 on topics of Emergency Service. After the interview, it was around 11 am, and he met with the General Manager of Nursing (GMN), and other DOMs from different nursing units. He had to report the admission rate in the last month, staff turnover rate, sick leave records, etc... After the meeting, it was 12:30; he had to attend a lunch meeting with the Ambulance Officer Association After the meeting, he returned to the office and joined the duty shift hand-over with his nursing staff. He reported the issues being discussed in the morning meeting with the General Manager of Nursing (GMN) to his subordinates.
He also listened to the report that After the meeting with the problem staff, Mr.Ho received a phone call from the Human Resources Department (HRD) about two new staff members available to work in his department. They were waiting outside his office. Then he brought the new staff to the Accident and Emergency Department (AED), orientated them about the department's operations and taught them how to use the medical equipment. Then he assigned one staff to work in the walking clan from frontline staff and nursing officers. After the duty shift handover, he returned to the office and met with a problem staff member Mr Wong. Mr Wong was a new workman and just worked for three weeks in his department. He got a work injury over his back and had been sick for four days. And he also complained about a Nursing Officer who is one to work in the resuscitation room.
It was 17:00 after the meeting; then he walked around the Accident & Emergency Department (AED) and monitored the work of his staff. He saw a new staff member giving an injection to a patient in a standing position and without pulling the curtain.Then, he stopped the staff and demonstrated the correct procedure. After that incident, he decided to amend the guidelines and stated that giving injections should provide a bed for the patient. At 17:15, he received a phone call from a medical equipment company, providing him with a quotation for a resuscitator costing HK$60,000. He then spent around fifteen minutes negotiating the price with the sales on this. After work, he had to attend a seminar and he had to give a talk to the public promoting their newly opened fever clinic service. He finished his work and returned home at 21:00.
