1. Describe the ways in which stress and fatigue would be likely to affect different components of an inexperienced firefighter’s work performance, towards the end of a busy and long night shift. What differences would you expect in the case of a highly experienced firefighter in the same circumstances?

2. Describe the kinds of factors likely to influence safety-related behaviours of either construction workers, home help workers, or either truck or taxi drivers (state which ONE of these occupations you have selected).

For the job you have selected, discuss whether some form of training would be likely to achieve a reduction in any of the negative (less safe) behaviours you have identified.

Also, discuss other possible means of improving their safety-related behaviours, and present arguments as to the kinds of interventions that are likely to be most effective.

3. Choose two (2) jobs from the list below identify the different factors that will influence the workload levels (i.e, mental workload, in the ergonomics sense) experienced by people in these two jobs. You will need to take into account task demands, broader job demands, and more general psychosocial factors.

Also, identify the likely impacts of these factors on the workers’ wellbeing and/or performance, and present arguments as to why workload is likely to be higher in one job than the other.

In doing the above, you should clearly explain the mechanisms linking the factors you identify with levels of workload, wellbeing, and/or performance, providing clear justification (well referenced) for your assertions and argument.
