Context

The distinction or variation from others is a foundational element of society... We are all different in ethnicity, culture, gender and gender expression, age, wealth and social class, religion, abilities, sexuality, health and many other characteristics and experiences which affect the way we relate to and are seen by others. This assessment is a critical reflection on the ways that difference has affected your life.

Task Summary

This is a poster or infographic presentation exercise based on your experience of diversity. You will critically examine the impact of diversity on your life. You will need to create a poster or infographic with no more than 500 words.

Task Instructions

You will identify three or four characteristics or experiences which make you different from other students in this course. These could be physical characteristics like height, weight or colouring, social characteristics like where you live, your family’s position in the town or suburb, or cultural characteristics like religion, sport, vegetarianism or ethnicity or any other points of difference. You will visually present your research on the impact of these diverse characteristics or experiences on others and on your self-image. The poster or infographic should be selfexplanatory and only essential information should be included. You are provided with three (3) layout templates to choose from under the Assessment 1 information section. Read the HCCSSD202_Creating Academic Poster document also available under the Assessment 1 information section for more details on the format of the poster. The following guidelines will assist you in creating your poster or infographic.

Introduction

Describe the impact of diversity on individuals from your research and in your own words.

  • Positive/negative aspects of differences in your life and its impact: Choose at least three characteristics which make you different from other students and discuss their impact on your life. For example, one of the characteristics might be your fitness which may have an impact on your ability to socialise with other students because healthy eating is important to you and so you avoid sugary treats and caffeine but at the same time this characteristic might have a positive impact on your mental health because you find exercise very calming.
