Highlights
In this assessment task, students are required to write a reflection of their own communication strengths and areas for improvement as noticed specifically during the group work task.
Purpose of task
The purpose of this assessment task is to enable students to reflect on their intrapersonal awareness of their communication skills. Students should also demonstrate an understanding of the importance and practice of self-reflection/reflective practice.
It is most important that students begin to appreciate that a reflection is much more than simply a narration of what was done or not done. In the context of communication techniques and strategies, a reflection process involves understanding your thoughts on what was done and what improvement is required for being a more effective and safer practitioner in your future practice
The use of subheadings is permitted to help with structuring your work (included in word count). Reflective writing is written in the 'first person’, which means you can use the words I my and so on. This is not normally permitted in academic writing (such as essays etc) but as the reflection contains YOUR thoughts and perceptions, built through your academic understanding, then the use of first person in this type of writing is appropriate.
The Gibbs Reflection Cycle consists of six different sections: Description, Feelings, Evaluation, Analysis, Conclusion and Action plan
