Highlights
Feelings
I felt that the ED physician was not following the person-centered practice mentioned in the NMBA code of conductAs per this nurse needs to promote shared decision-making and care delivery with a person, nominated partner, family, and health professional. I was more concerned about the patient as it was her right to inform her husband about the surgery. However, the consultant acted promptly to avoid the delay for surgery which makes me happy at that time.I was so thankful to the consultant as she agreed to speak to the patients husband.
Evaluation
The right thing about the situation was that the timely intervention and management of the consultant.I had escalated this issue to the charge nurse and head nurse after tl transferred the patient to theatre.Head nurse and Ed consultant spoke to the ED doctor about his unprofessional behaviour..Later on ED physician approached me and apologized for his behaviour.Aaccording to (Pavita et al,2022) studies, unprofessional behavioursmainly requires in person education to improve the behaviour
Analyses
When I analyse this situation, this incident was extremely challenging for me.However, I am pleased that the doctor responded positively after the discussion with the ED team. Head nurse and consultant was appreciated me for my action and thet said that we need to always provide patient centered care.As per NMBA standars of practice, nurse has to engage in therapeutic and professional relationship.
Action Plan
If like this incident will happen in the future, I will create an electronic incident report to ensure that the well being of well-being and rights of the patient is being reserved.
