The individually prepared written assignment should be an essay or report format and should include background information about the chosen disability or social disadvantage on which your work is based.

1. Draw on your responses to weekly readings and other topic resources, and personal journal entries (if you have chosen to complete them), to help illustrate your understanding of the issues and concerns raised in the paper; you can use brief specific quotes or paraphrasing from your prior work, including dates of entry (for instance FLO postings or personal journal entries).
2. It is suggested that you then approach your work as a ‘case study’ about the impact of the disability or other lived experience and what approaches to counselling may be helpful. It is preferable that your case study is a ‘real’ one associated with a recorded interview (with personal information removed).
3. Utilise your counselling skills to conduct and audio record a short interview with a person willing to speak with you and, with the permission of the ‘client’, discuss key factors as noted above. Your counselling approach and its effectiveness should be commented and reflected on in your written assignment, but is not ‘assessed’ as such.
