A museum is increasing its visitor attractions with a heritage-themed children?s pla?gro?nd. One of the pieces of play equipment will be a vintage 1950s roundabout of octagonal wooden box designThe supporting steel framework and wooden panels of this roundabout have been restored by a local engineering company and this is NOT part of your redesign. Unfortunately, the bearings and central supporting post have been lost and no record of their size and shape can be found ? and in any case.

You have been commissioned to redesign the central section of the roundabout. Your starting point is a central tube, internal ø280mm (see diagram below). All existing structural elements of the main bod? are ?ec?red ?o ?he external face of this tube (this area cannot feature in your design). The internal face of this tube is available for you to fix components of your design. You need to consider how you will secure the tube, via bearings, to the concrete playground floor. In addition, the roundabout needs to drive a small electric generator. This will have two effects: the current from the generator will be used to power speakers that will play music, and it will prevent the roundabout from going at a dangerous speed

Additional Information

•  The internal tube, as shown below with the main roundabout structure cutaway, is available to download as a Solidworks part file. All your detail design drawings should show this.
•  The main roundabout is ø2m and has a mass of 180kg
•  Civil engineers have been appointed to prepare the playground site and will provide a foundation sole plate(s) to your specification ? you just need to make the bolting points clear on your drawings
•  A cavity underneath the roundabout can also be specified if required
•  The music system/speakers are NOT part of your brief ? you simply need to take the generator as provided (also as a Solidworks file) and drive it via the roundabout. A speed increasing gearbox is incorporated into the generator part such that sufficient current will be generated when the input shaft is driven at 100rev/min
•  The music should start when the roundabout spins at a typical speed. You can then assume that sufficient braking will be provided by the generator to prevent the roundabout rotating at a dangerous speed.
