1. Interpret Joyce’s prolonged recovery-time in terms of wound healing. Be sure to include reference to the effects of aging on

• the structure of his skin, particularly considering heat-loss by a new-born baby, and the mechanisms in which James’s body can warm itself up/restrict heat-loss.
• Unfortunately, Claire was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes during her pregnancy with James.
• Explain what this diagnosis meant for her in terms of how her body was processing the carbohydrates and sugars that she consumes, giving clear detail of how this process normally takes place in the body.
• Identify possible steps she could take to reduce the risk of developing this condition during her current pregnancy.

3. To make Claire’s pregnancy even harder, she recently fell and fractured her radius! Applying your knowledge of skeletal system structure:

• Describe the process of healing for Claire’s fractured radius. Compare this to the formation of bones by her unborn foetus.

4. Women experiencing hyperemesis gravidarum are at risk of a number of potential health-issues as a result. Applying your knowledge of the systems covered to-date, discuss two (2) major potential health-issues resulting from hyperemesis gravidarum, either to Claire or her foetus.
