4. For each of the ethical issues listed in the table below, identifyat least two ethical principles involved and outline two approaches you would use to address these principles in your practice and conduct.
Colin Russell, who is 78 years old, has lived a fruitful life. He was diagnosed with liver cancer six months ago and his condition has deteriorated quickly. Colin has a son Malcolm who lives an hour away from him and does not want him to die. Colin has an advanced care directive in place, which says he is happy to die naturally, as he has lived his life happily and has no regrets. He does not want his life prolonged artificially. His wishes are not to resuscitate him or give him any fluids or bloods. 
However, a few days after his admission, Colin’s condition deteriorates and he is now unconscious. He is displaying signs that his death is imminent. Colin’s son leaves his room crying and begs you and other staff to intervene now that he cannot refuse treatment.
5. Consider how you would respond to this request. Provide information about:
• The requirements of Colin’s ACD
• The policies that provide guidance (in end-of-life decisions and NFR orders)
• How you would explain this to Colin’s son.

After an in-depth discussion about treatment options, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the parents decide to take the child overseas to participate in a clinical trial. The therapy in the clinical trial has had inconclusive results and has been abandoned in the USA, UK, Netherlands and Australia due to poor outcomes.
6. Describe the options available to ensure the child receives adequate care. Your answer should include the following:
• Legal issues around human rights and access to healthcare, parental rights and guardianship
• Ethical issues around experimental treatments, research and involvement in clinical trials.

Kylie offered to bring lunch for Shaun, as it was her day off. As time passes, Shaun and Kylie’s relationship becomes more personal because they have similar interests. Kylie starts spending time with Shaun after work and on her days off. They also send each other text messages, chat on the phone and become Facebook friends. The relationship started with one cup of coffee and has now developed into a friendship.
