Christopher is a 78-year-old resident who recently moved into the aged care facility that you work in as an enrolled nurse. Christopher was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease three years ago. His wife, Elizabeth, was struggling to care for him at home, the family reluctantly decided Christopher needed full-time care as his symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease worsened.

Christopher and Elizabeth have been married for 50 years and have three adult children and multiple grandchildren with whom they have always been very close. Although Elizabeth visits Christopher for a few hours every day, Christopher is not coping well with the move into the residential aged care facility and is exhibiting signs of depression. He often stays in his room and has limited contact with the other residents or staff in the facility. He also has difficulty eating meals. Elizabeth tells you this behaviour is out of character for him, as her husband has always been very chatty, sociable and loves to cook and had a very good appetite.
