This assessment requires you to put yourself into the position of a social worker or community services worker within the case study which you down load here (not available until later in the trimester). The case study will be similar to those you have been doing in your weekly work in the modules in this unit's Moodle site. You are required to critically explore and examine the case situation and answer the questions related to interprofessional practice and team work, development of your professional identity, and your preferred career pathway in the health and social care sector. Hence, this assessment piece will be provided in both the first and third tense, the latter when you are describing and analysing the case situation and the former when you are outlining your own professional identity and career aspirations.

In this assessment piece you will need to do the following:

1. Closely read the case situation provided for this piece of assessment and note its key information and relevance to your own profession and its practice standards and ethics. Use your learning and resources in this unit to guide your analysis.

2. Critically examine the situation and compare and contrast how the characteristics of professional practice outlined in the case study fit with what the academic and professional literature identifies concerning well-functioning teams and effective interprofessional practice.

3. Identify and explain the implications of the case situation and your analysis above for social workers or community services workers practising in the context outlined in the case study and their profession’s practice standards and ethics

4. Describe your emerging professional identity in your chosen profession. You may reflect upon how you would operate as a social worker in such a practice context, and identify and describe the sorts of knowledge and skills you would need to develop to successfully practice there – what are your professional strengths and limitations here? The AASW Practice Standards might be a useful guide to help you identify the skill and knowledge set you need for quality professional practice.

5. Briefly outline your own emerging preferred career pathway/s and examine how you will use your studies to achieve this. You may of course choose a career pathway that is completely different to the one outlined in the case study.
