Therefore, it is vital that registered nurses can work effectively within teams and have a thorough understanding of not only their role within the team, but also the roles of other health professionals within interdisciplinary teams.

This assessment task provides you with an opportunity to evaluate an evolving case study and consider the role of the interdisciplinary team and the registered nurse’s role within the interdisciplinary team. It also provides you with an opportunity to reflect upon your own individual teamwork skills and to build upon your academic presentation skills.

Task Description:

You are required to read an evolving case study and answer four questions related to the case study. The questions will be about members of interdisciplinary teams, the registered nurse’s role in interdisciplinary teams and the importance of communication in interdisciplinary teams. You will also need to reflect upon your own individual teamwork skills.

Question 

1. Explain the importance of interdisciplinary teams in providing safe and quality healthcare. You must also identify two (2) health professionals (other than registered nurses) that will be involved in the interdisciplinary team caring for Elaine and explain their role as a health professional.

2. Explain the registered nurse’s role in the interdisciplinary team and relate your response to Elaine’s care.

3. Explain the importance of clear communication within the interdisciplinary team in order to ensure safe and quality care. Relate your response to Elaine’s care.

4. Using the Rolfe, Freshwater and Jasper (2001) reflection framework, reflect upon what you have learnt about teamwork and working in interdisciplinary teams, including the teamwork skills you need to continue to develop . Use the below prompts as headings to assist your reflection:
