Nurses have a fundamental role in suicide prevention at an individual, community, societal and legislative level. Building upon your skills gained from Assessment Task 1, this assessment task will enable you to examine suicide and suicide prevention in Australia, including mental health promotion programs to prevent suicide.

Assignment Question / Task Description: 

This assignment is split into two parts: 

Part A: 

Discuss suicide in Australian contexts including population groups at an increased risk and the impact of suicide. Your discussion should also include the risk and protective factors for suicide. 

Part B: 

Identify, discuss and evaluate two (2) mental health promotion programs currently used in suicide prevention in Australia. The suicide prevention programs must be aimed at a population level and not in the ward/clinical setting. You also need to also explain the role of the nurse in suicide prevention and promoting mental health.
