Purpose of assessment task:
This assessment task will enable you to advance and demonstrate your professional judgment, leadership and professionalism through reflection on, experiential learning in, and knowledge acquisition of, the contemporary healthcare practice environment.
Assignment Question / Task Description:
In this assessment you will submit a portfolio of your reflections as a learner in this unit, accompanied by a short, written summative reflection that draws on your portfolio as a whole.
This final submission will be graded according to the rubric provided. You are invited to submit one reflection for formative feedback (ungraded to assist your ongoing learning) early in the trimester.
Instructions for this assessment task:
Over the course of the Trimester you are required to complete two reflections on your experiences as a learner/clinician for each of the Unit Themes of Inquiry (total 8).
At the end of the trimester you are required to compose a final, short written piece discussing your experience of the practice of regular reflection, whether it has impacted on your clinical practice, and what you have learned over the Trimester through the practice of reflection.
• All nine (9) reflections (2 from each Themes of Inquiry and the one overall final summary reflection) are to be submitted by the final (summative) submission date at the end of trimester.
• You are very welcome to submit your reflections earlier than the due by date.
• You are invited to submit one of your reflections for formative audio only feedback (ungraded), by the appointed date (specified under ‘Submission information’).
Themes of Inquiry:
• Transcultural, ethical and psychosocial concepts of brain death, complicated loss and grief and critical incident stress debriefing within specialty areas including the nursing considerations of patient care, family and the multidisciplinary care team;
• Current and emerging concepts of competency, specialisation and scope of practice; and considerations of nursing roles in outreach teams, managed care and critical care units without walls;
• Clinical governance, policy and practice development within specialty areas including the contribution of patient and consumer perspectives, and
• Specialty area structure, process and outcome measures including patient and nurse-sensitive indicators for high quality safe care.
Reflections do not have to be written, and can take the form of audio or video recordings, or any other form which meets the assessment criteria. If you chose to do an audio file, please keep it relatively short (less than five minutes).
Reflections may be associated with a particular object or resource (such as a video clip or journal article), but can also be independent of any other learning materials.
You may elect to use a reflective framework to structure your reflections, but this is not a requirement of the assignment. There are some resources and models for reflective practice in Cloud Deakin. You are encouraged to explore these to help you structure your thoughts and reflections.
Word count is not specified for this assignment to enable you to submit reflections in various forms and media if you choose, and to not limit genuine reflection and critical thinking. To guide you, keep in mind the weighting of the assessment. Try to be concise and to the point. You don’t need to provide copious details of clinical scenarios etc. Also remember that the work you do for this assessment is informing your final written submission (AT3).
You will receive audio feedback on your formative reflection, and rubric only feedback on your summative reflections.
