Hospitality Management and Business in Australia Assignment

Assignment Task

I XX am providing this letter in support of my application for a student visa and to illustrate my genuine intention and desire to pursue nursing studies in Australia. My great grandfather and grandfather were both doctors and my father is a veterinary specialist so I am very familiar with the health care field. I spent many hours growing up watching my father work as a Vet and care for and administer medicine to animals. I initially intended to come to Australia to study nursing, however, when I consulted with my agent, Mr XX Singh, he advised me that I wouldn’t have suitable English language skills to proceed down this path. At the time I was working in my uncle/cousin’s business in the tourism and hotel industry and based on my agent’s advice and previous experience obtained in the tourism industry, I decided to pursue further studies in Hospitality Management and Business.

I completed my Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management through Carrick Institute of Education in Australia in mid-2010. As evidenced in the attached, prior to the completion of my Advanced Diploma, I corresponded with Carrick regarding my enrolment in the business degree program. I was initially going to complete my Higher Education studies through Victoria University, however due to my previous studies at Carrick, decided to continue my studies through them as they offered me a cheaper fee than Victoria University.

Requiring assistance in extending my student visa to complete my Bachelor degree, I acquired the services of Mr XX , a Migration Agent with XXXX Migration Services, located at XXXXX Street. Mr XXX, based on my recently completed Advanced Diploma studies, suggested I apply for a Temporary 485 visa and based on his recommendation and assistance, I submitted my 485 visa on 11 ^th August 2010. It is for these reasons that I did not pursue a Bachelor of Business and note that up until speaking with Mr XX I had every intention of pursuing a further higher education course. 

Upon the completion of my Hospitality Management studies, I began searching for employment in the hospitality field. After considerable time, I was able to obtain some voluntary work at XX. Over the coming years I found it exceptionally difficult to obtain permanent employment within the hospitality industry. Please see attached for materials evidencing my genuine attempts to obtain employment and experience in the hospitality field. Not only this, I am a vegetarian and found working with chicken, meat and seafood on a regular basis very unpleasant. Unable to maintain living expenses with voluntary and casual employment within the hospitality industry, I was forced to seek further employment. I obtained employment with XXXX International in the production department and continue to work as a Production Manager with the company today. Given my difficulties in obtaining employment in the past, I have remained working with my current employer who has recently sought to sponsor me under the 457 visa program.

My wife joined me in Australia in 2010 and given her Nursing qualifications/background was able to obtain employment as a personal care worker. Her tales told at the end of her working day moved me and helped rekindle my desire and influenced my decision in wanting to pursue further studies in nursing. As stated above, I come from a family who have worked in the health care field. Healthcare runs in my blood and my family are elated at my decision to now pursue further studies in this field and possibly continue our family’s legacy.

I have come to know that in order to further my career in the nursing field I must undertake further studies. It is for this reason that I have enrolled in a Diploma of Nursing. I have chosen to pursue my studies at Job Training Institute for the following reasons;

• JTI is one of Australia’s premier vocational education providers.
• JTI has strong links with hospitals and medical centres so I will be able to gain some real life experiences through the placements offered.
• The Job Training Institute for nursing campus located at Dandenong is close to both my home and current place of employment.
• The qualifications provided by JTI will deem me eligible to apply for and obtain registration with the Australian Nursing Regulatory Authority (AHPRA) and are fully recognised locally and abroad.
• This Institute provides a clear gateway to well-known universities should I deem it necessary to obtain further higher qualification such as Bachelor of Nursing upon the completion of my Diploma studies.

Nursing schools in Australia have an excellent reputation internationally for providing high quality nurse education programs designed to service every sector of the health care industry. Upon completion of my studies and training in Australia I will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to work within a wide variety of health care settings, further increasing my ability to obtain employment in my home country. It is for this reason that I wish to pursue nursing/further studies in Australia as opposed to my home country.

Moreover as per student visa conditions, students are allowed to work 20 hours a week in order to gain real life experiences and skills as well earn some income for their living expenses. My employment with XX International has not only allowed me to earn an income to support my family but has ensured I have good communication/English language skills and effective organisation and time management skills. It has also ensured that I am able to effectively manage and work in a team, all skills highly relevant to the nursing profession.

I intend to continue working with XX while I pursue my further studies. XX, JTI and my place of residence are all within close proximity making this possible. Furthermore, my family always taught me to have a back-up plan where possible.

Upon the completion of my nursing studies I plan to become a registered Nurse and seek employment in a hospital. As evidence in the attached, I am confident that I will be able to obtain a job as a Nurse in my home country as there is currently a shortage of skilled nurses. Furthermore, the connections and experience my family has in the health care industry will also assist me in obtaining employment in my home country. I confirm that my spouse and I have no immediate family in Australia and intend to return to India upon the completion of my nursing studies so that I can both pursue a career in Nursing and assist/look after my parents as is my family duty being the eldest/only son.

I am hopeful that the above statement has been able to effectively clarify my reasons and desire to pursue further studies as a Nurse in Australia. I believe that I encompass the personality traits, skills and work ethic required to have a successful nursing career. I am compassionate, a father, a vegetarian and have a gentle and caring nature and therefore feel that this profession is highly suited to me and far more rewarding and desirable than that of a Cook/Hospitality position.
