How to Prepare For Economics and Social Issues Assignment

Assignment Task

The exam will consist of four questions of which you are asked to answer two questions. The questions come from four of the subjects covered in the lectures:

• Sustainability
• Growth
• Taxation
• Equality

In each of these sections there is supporting material on the Moodle page for you to revise and build a knowledge base in order to answer these questions. The following is a brief indication of where you might concentrate your revision for the exam.

Sustainability 

Investigate the UN SDG's and the policies of implementation. Key reading for this is Filho et al (2022).

Growth-Investigate the way in which growth is measured and think around the issues raised in the class regarding intangibles within the measure of growth - Key Readings: Central Bank of Ireland, The Disconnection of GDP from Economic Activity Carried out in Ireland. European

System of Accounts

Taxation - Investigate Adam Smith and the framework for taxation he proposed. Also investigate the Irish Tax system in relation to Adam Smith's ideas.

Equality Investigate the measurements for Irish income inequality and the specific measures and variables in the 2023 measurement.
