Assignment Task

This assessment task requires you to write a critical reflective essay on your impact as a leader in your practice setting implementing or planning a Practice Development initiative.

You are to identify the complexities of the situation you may encounter as a leader and using the literature, critique the leadership approaches relevant to the situation and justify your reasoning.

You must also reflect and discuss leadership through a Practice Development lens in relation to ONE evaluation approach and how this will impact on the success of the initiative/project.

Task Instructions

A reflective essay requires you to examine life/professional experience, especially those which have left an impression or are important for professional growth. It requires you to describe your thoughts and feelings regarding these events to analyze the impact on your life/practice and what you have learned from it. The primary aim is to push you to think deeply.

A critical reflective essay requires all the above and in addition to examine life/professional experience in relation to the relevant literature and sources and your context (practice). You need to interrogate the literature or other sources and analyze your own experience in the context of what these sources are saying and evaluate arguments/theories between opposing views to consider alternatives

The challenge is ensuring you are thinking critically. Critical thinking is purposeful. It is rational and an objective analysis of an issue to form a judgement. This means a critical reflective essay requires you to make a judgement, develop a position which is supported by evidence informed or related to your own experience (reflection) and the literature. Theoutcome should be reflection on this new knowledge integrated into your understanding and practice. You should demonstrate how this new knowledge has challenged your assumptions and informed future practice.

Descriptive writing is just informing the reader of something. It does not synthesize ideas or lead the reader to understand the significance of the issue. It does not provide a judgement or argue an informed position. There are several questions you might ask yourself:

1. Did that experience matter?

2. What did you learn?

3. What did you feel about the experience?

4. What were the challenges either personal or professional?

5. What would you do differently?

This assessment task requires you to identify and adopt an evaluation framework. Module 1 & 2 presents summaries of a number of evaluation frameworks. You are required to build on this learning for this task. It is expected you will have engaged critically and more broadly with the wider literature and this is evident in your paper.

Part A: Identify and adopt an evaluation framework based on ONE of the accepted evaluation approaches with clear reference to the evaluation checklist adapted from McCormack, Manly & Titchen (2013)

This framework is to be presented together with a justification of its elements and must clearly align with your current practice context.

Part B: You are required to present a detailed evaluation plan that identifies the step-by-step process of the implementation of your evaluation. The plan must be clearly guided by the framework presented in the first part of the assessment.

Summary

  • Identify and adopt an evaluation framework informed by scholarly literature
  • Present this framework in writing, clearly demonstrating its relevance to your organization’s strategic direction and your clinical environment alongside evidence of your engagement with the literature
  • Following this framework, present a clear and concise project evaluation plan that offers a step-by-step explanation, guided by your framework, of how you intend to implement the evaluation of your project.
