Research Proposal

This could be related to your dissertation theme, or you could select a different thematic area in order to develop your thinking about a particular research approach. This is a good chance to experiment with the research design and the research tools that you will adopt in your dissertation. Provide a working title.

Research Question(s)

• What do you want to find out?
• Why is this question worth asking?
• This will include thinking about the scope of your study - make sure this is tight and well focused.
• Remember RQs need to be in a format that can be researched

Context of Research

A brief review of the background context for your question This does not require you to do a full literature review but rather to identify key issues raised by other researchers in the area you are investigating, so that you are building on the work of others. Identifying the disciplinary areas you may be drawing upon.

Provide a rationale for selecting your research design, research tools / documentary sources and proposed analysis of your data:

This should include a discussion of alternative possibilities (design frames, for a research approach that is the best fit for your research question)

Ethics

A discussion of ethical issues raised by your proposed study

Dissertation

Your dissertation may be on the same or similar theme as your assignment (although it may not be). However, it is important for you to understand that you cannot copy and paste from the assignment for this module into your dissertation.

Procedure

The procedure is an account of your study detailed enough for someone else to replicate your investigation.

This should include:

• The structure of your research design.
• Detail of research tools used e.g. the procedure for photo voice; interview schedule etc.
• An account of the procedures you will need to adopt to respond to the ethical issues discussed in your rationale section
