Assignment Task

Question

  1. What actually is required in the assignment task and they might actually drive from a duplicate screen today?
  2. There are a couple of other key items associated with this assessment task that you should be aware of. It's 5 pages long that doesn't include the cover page, the table of contents or references that you may require for it, but it is pretty short.
  3. So when you've got an introduction and a conclusion, you're basically writing a very, very tight piece of work around each of those four bullet points.
  4. So about one page for each of those bullet points. It is tough. It will require you to review your draft several times to get within that five to five and a half page limit. As part of that.
  5. I do require a cover page. I'll give you some details about that. I do require a cover page which will mean you will have to use page numbering and page styles in from word to complete this task.
  6. You cannot use the higher education sector for this assessment task. I haven't seen any recordings yet that have used that, but I just want to make it clear that the higher education sector is off limits. So because we're covering this quite in detail in class, you have to do a sector other than that.
  7. In terms of presentation requirements, you must submit a Word document, and in fact, if you do not complete this assignment in Microsoft Word, so you use an open, unlicensed version of a different software, you will find it very difficult to score well in the presentation component of this task, you must use Microsoft Word. That requirement is because when you go and work, it is expected that you have a good command of using Microsoft Word. So using any of the.
  8. And what processing software other than word will make this assignment extremely difficult for you to score well on part of that?
  9. You must use a cover page that looks professional but easiest way to do that is to use a report template from within word. So you can create that from word but do not use any of the templates which are described morning Natalia which are described as a student report. So if you use one that looks like a student report, you will not do particularly well. Let me see if I can get rid of this post that.
  10. It will actually give you a whole range of them. Once that have the word student in the title are not acceptable
  11. that's this one that's called coastal butterflies. That is the only type of student report that I would accept because it actually looks quite professional. The rest of them look like a university assignment and that is not enough to_be digitally literate in the workplace today. So please make sure that you understand that you also must use the styles that come with Microsoft Word- so you cannot automatically format the headings.
  12. You must use a table of contents and you must use either the Endnote citation manager, which exists within Microsoft uh, sorry, within Word, citation Manager or Endnote. You cannot do manual referencing for this assignment.
  13. Missing out on any one of those things will automatically put you in the novice category for presentation
  14. And it is worth 5 marks, so it is equally weighted along with some of the content aspects. So you must, if you do not know how to use word, you must spend time. YouTube is probably the best place to learn how to do that because it it won't be performing particularly well as part of that.
  15. To give you an idea of what does look OK, I'm gonna slot between different slides and things. He's a bit of an example of a presentation requirements.
  16. If you submit a cover page which looks like the one on the left, you will get zero in presentation marks.
  17. It is not Ok, it needs to lodk something like the one on the right hand side. So that's why you must use either a cover page that's buit into word,
  18. happy for you to create your own nice professional one as long as it is the first page in Word and this is because digital literacy is extremely important. And if you do not know how to use word at this level to do these things.
  19. Someones coming in? No, that's right. If you if you, if you do not know how to do these things, you will not meet minimum requirements for being able to get a job in the environmental science field in WA or Australia at the moment. So I am particularly fixated on this. It is a very, very important employability skill for you.
  20. There are a couple of other things that I wanted you to be aware of, so it's worth 30% of your ultimate grade. So it's quite a significant piece of work associated with this particular task. The marks are awarded accordingly. So there are six sections for which grades are awarded. So the presentation report quality aspect is worth five of the 30 marks as part of that.
  21. There are five marks available for the definition of sustainability and and the identification of five issues using some sort of a materiality assessment or evidence from reports within the sector as part of that you need to produce at least four criteria which are appropriate considering the material issues for that and exactly how you're going to assess that. So today we're gonna be looking at the times.
  22. Higher education sustainability criteria and there is it very explicit methodology and which I have provided a link to in the PowerPoint slides to show you how you're doing that. I'm expecting to see that level. If you want to get towards the top end of the practitioner, which is the 50% mark and to the exemplary range as part of that.
  23. You then need to evaluate against those criteria, so that's we're looking at how that has been done and what that means for different universities today. But you need to recreate that for your particular sector. 5 marks is also about the recommendations and you have to make to get into the exemplary or the practitioner, you need to make at least two specific and quantifiable recommendations for benchmarking performance. And by that I mean you have to make recommendations which.
  24. Basically, say if you do this you will have achieved that.
  25. It is very specific. You also have to make one recommendation with regards to how communication with the public can be improved or can be adopted based on what you have evaluated from within reports in your sector.
  26. You will need to look at at least two other organizations in your sector to identify that, so we're only looking at 1today. Each of the groups are gonna be looking at a different organisation, but you will need at least two to get a balanced perspective.
  27. We've spoken about the report content quality aspect, so as I said, if you do not have a cover page word styles you have not used the citation word referencing. You have not got a table of contents. You do not have page numbers, you will fall in this with a maximum of 1 mark for that criteria. So it's the easiest criteria to achieve. If you haven't developed those skills you can see in practitioner and exemplary I have been very specific about what is required
  28. It's part of those aspects As always, there is a requirement for paraphrasing and referencing. Now, if it is like a situation that we have with the higher education sector, where there is actually explicit criteria and methodology for assessing things, you can quote that criteria so you can put it in quotation Marks and attribute it as a reference. If there isn't one that exists for your your sector or the criteria, a little bit vague and you need to make it more specific.
  29. Then you don't need to to quote, cause you're just building upon other people's work as part of it for the paraphrasing and referencing, I strongly recommend that you use the turn it in Assessment report task to have a look at the extensiveness of your highlighting morning. Some highlighting is expected.
  30. But if you are getting above 30 or 40%, unless it's your reference list because I haven't set it up correctly, it put could be either that you've got lots of quotes, which may or may not be OK, or it may be that you actually need to do some paraphrasing. And in fact I might open up a slide that I've got. I don't use it in this class, but I did use it with my undergraduates
  31. there are four things that you as a student should be using. Turn it in for one of them is for having a look at your scores as too high and in some situations we're actually expecting a high score. So for those of you that have done biostats or doing biostats, you would have seen that actually there was a note in the.
  32. Assessment task which says you know what we're actually expecting a high task because there are only three different ways you can write a conclusion statement in this situation, depending on the maturity of your sector, you may get a high Turner in score
  33. Times Higher Education methodology I kind of have no other option but to do that, so I might get a high turnitin score. But at least when I look at it as a marker and when I look at it as a student I can say you know what, that's exactly what I'm expecting to see. So you need to look at that particular aspect
  34. It may mean that I haven't cited it appropriately, so if I don't have an author date at the end of it, then perhaps that's an area to help me identify where. Perhaps I have missed referencing.
  35. If your score is too low, it probably means you haven't used enough references and I wanna clarify a statement that I probably made in week one or week two because turn it in appears to have changed
  36. So I think it has changed its algorithm and I I haven't quite sussed out what it is, but if you find that you have a whole paragraph or more that doesn have any references, even references to the example examples that you need to use for this assignment, it probably means you do need to at least put a reference. It probably means you're OK at paraphrasing, but it may mean if you haven't got an author date in the text that you need to do
  37. But I did want to clarify that my previous position of a zero and 100 always makes me a bit nervous. Zero no longer makes me nervous.
  38. Because I I cannot explain,so I I wrote something which I totally know should have appeared in turn
  39. There are two other things that you can use a turn it in report for if you have large sections of your reports. So we've talked about the fact that effectively you've got a half page intro, half page wrap up section if you will. You've got a page each on the identify, evaluate, review and recommendations section more or less it's probably not true. Your recommendations are probably a bit shorter than that if you are using only source.
  40. Be nice or actually two sources which might be the two example organisations that you're referring to. I kind of expect that, so I'm expecting a relatively short reference list, probably no more than four or five references.
  41. One is likely to be the if there's benchmarking criteria or there's a GRI reference standard or something else like similar to the UNEP and the time said higher education, I would see two there. I would see 2 reports and I might have some information from the organization that I'm writing about ECU.
  42. Type here to searchThat's kind of the length of references you want for this. Please do not use journal articles for this assignment. They will almost certainly be wrong.
  43. Some our sources for nations, what types of them. So you may refer to other recommendations, but actually you'll you'll find it pretty hard to do it because you have to write them specific to your organization that you're writing about. So what are the recommendations for ECU? We'll the number one recommendation is we can't find anywhere that you're doing benchmarking, so you need to start doing that now. It's possible that there may be references that there might.
  44. Like there may very well be.But for the sector, but the sector for the sector, yes.Usually the concession for the this correct.
  45. It's like maybe applied for this organization and yes, where you have found that in the product list. So l've gotta say, I haven't thought about that, but it is completely possible. So and Natalia's question is if the if the sector has been making recommendations about the fact that they need to lift their game and perform better and you have found for the organization you're writing for, that applies to it. Yes, you could reference those if that is possible. I haven't actuallythought about that before. The recommendation sections is really based on everything that you've go
  46. What are the things that you're finding and can do that? So for those of you that come from a science background, it's kind of like the conclusion section of a lab report. But you are absolutely correct that in fact I could think of from some of the intro text in the UNEP section from last week, and actually in the methodology section for the Times Higher Education, where there are statements which could be recommendations about where things need to lift. I haven't thought about that before, but yes, that is entirely possible. It was OK if they're commendation section doesn't consist of any referenceIt it's correct. So you usually it's it's your observation, your review of what has undertaken, but you are absolutely right that it could potentially be that there are references.
  47. Again, if you have large sections, so if you get an exceptionally low turn it in report that would say to me for this task you have not done enough to make the minimum expectations for this task. I would be expecting particularly in the identify section that there would be some highlighting for it. So please please be aware of Ihat particular aspect. Please also make sure that you cite every reference that you use so.
  48. I'm a postgraduate level. We are expecting you to be able to paraphrase that the exception in this assignment is if there is criteria that exists like the Times Higher Education, one that we're gonna be exploring today or the UNEP maturity assessment that we used last week, then those criteria should be written verbatim. So letter for letter, word for word, because that is the criteria for those as part of it. And if that exists for the sector you have chosen then that.
  49. That should be listed. I actually don't require you to use quotation marks for that particular text, but I would expect you to cite it, so you might list at the Times Higher Education impact methodology includes the following criteria, and you have them. I would probably wouldn't list them all.cuz that's actually too long, but you might have five or six that you use for that. I would actually expect those to be just written verbatim.
  50. It it is odd not to use quotation marks. I appreciate that, but it it would actually look a bit funny for those, but you should make sure that it's really clear that the information is coming from a particular source and the best way to do that in that particular situation without using quotation marks for this context only is to be explicit at the top as to where the source is and go underneath it. So I hope that helps. I will copy this slide and put it in.
  51. So that that's where we're at at referencing those of you that have studied with me before, no, I am very pedantic about referencing and making sure that that when you use ideas and information from other sources, you reference it. I also want to note that I don't have an issue if you use ChatGPT.However, GPT 4 is now a paid service. It's actually surprisingly cheaper than I was expecting. My son was doing some testing for me over the weekend
  52. However, you must cite it, so if I suspect you have used ChatGPT or GPT 4, or some of the other quillbot or paraphrasing software, it will be reported for investigation. So please make sure that if you use that source that you are very open about it. I would rather use say I've used it, which I think is actually a really great way to come to terms with early things. So you could say I wanna talk about the OR the drink
  53. Reusable drink bottle manufacturer. You might use chat cheap PT to help you identify this places to go and look for information in exactly the same way as Google. But if it produces any text and you use that text, you must reference that text as being from that particular source because it is not
  54. However, you must cite it, so if I suspect you have used ChatGPT or GPT 4, or some of the other quillbot or paraphrasing software, it will be reported for investigation. So please make sure that if you use that source that you are very open about it. I would rather use say l've used it, which I think is actually a really great way lad come to terms with early things. So you could say I wanna talk about
  55. One of the assignment ones I tested actually produced some really useful information that I didn't know anything about that existed, so it may be more useful than Google, but if you use it, you've got a cite it as part of that Please note that that only applies for this unit, some universe, some units at this university will actually not recommend you using GPT 4 or ChatGPT, but I'm gonna be quite open about it that I know people are using it. I'd rather you tell me about it because it's much better for you to tell me about it than me to find out by myself.
