Personal statement – MCIT Online at University of Pennsylvania
I studied in the College of the Desert with a 3.92/4 GPA, majored in business administration, and I worked as a mathematics and statistics tutor in the school tutoring center during 2011-2013. I deal with subjects on algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus1A, calculus 1B, and statistics. In 2015, I graduated from UCLA and received a degree in Economics. By the time I graduated, I worked in an invested company as an accountant. I took GRE exam on May 2021 and scored 336/340.
I have some programming background in preparation to study in the MCIT program. Even though I am not a computer science major graduate, I always use computer knowledge to innovate every job I have taken. Along the way of my jobs, I have been learning computer-related knowledge online with Udemy all the time. Things I have learned include algorithms, data structures, Python, JavaScript, Swift, HTML, CSS, Node.js, Flutter, React, Express, MongoDB, and WordPress.
After I resigned, I started to designed websites. All my online learning rewards me well in my jobs. I can finish my work faster and better by utilizing the computer knowledge I learned. However, as learning more and more, I found that to really understand what is going on under all these programming languages and tools, I need to study the fundamental theories on computer science. Only this way, I can solidify my previous learning, expand my current knowledge, and even start a whole new career in the future.
My motivation is that since I creates e-commerce platform and website, I need to learn and understand how to design the website and come up with a suitable interface that allows smartphone users to access the website or online store with or without an application. By getting enrolled in MCIT, I will gather the proper knowledge and information on writing codes, designing websites, and learning my way around e-commerce. The course will give me the ability to expand my understanding and expertise in UX & UI design. It will also expose me to endless possibilities when it comes to using the internet and technology to propel my business idea beyond international borders. It will also boost my ambitions to work with larger corporations and become an influential person in the world. I already have some little experience in e-commerce ad believe that the course will expand my comprehension of the e-commerce idea and give me more opportunities to learn and become creative. This program will be the path through which I realize my dreams of having a functional business and an e-commerce website.
I have a major in business, and I have a passion for business which places me in a position where I need technical skills to succeed. If I went for further studies in a business course, I would only be looking at business from one perspective. However, adding MCIT to the business background elevates me and gives me advantages far beyond what I can imagine. I have a drive and desire to succeed not only in business but also in IT. I wish to combine my business skills and computer science knowledge in making a business that will last in the market. I have seen friends develop business ideas that have started on the right path, but because they lacked technical skills like computer science knowledge, they ended up struggling. I believe the program will blend in with the current knowledge and skills that I have in business and make me sharp and creative in the market. It will also enable me to look at a business from an information technology perspective. IT is the force behind the global business, and every business leader with a background or possessing skills in IT has an advantage over the rest. IT offers solutions to businesses, making it easy to run operations at lower cost and effectiveness. This program gives me confidence because I have seen many entrepreneurs who have advanced and succeeded in their businesses because they expanded their business skills and added IT knowledge. It will help me become creative and innovative by applying IT concepts in business.
