ULO2: Apply theoretical knowledge to novel problems and situations related to the topic of relationships
ULO3: Communicate in both written and oral means to different audiences on the topic of social relationships
2. Assignment Topic
The topic of AT3 is the Ideal Standards Model – a theory widely employed to the study of romantic relationships. Although, the Ideal Standards Model is a comprehensive theory, which explains a number of different romantic relationship processes at all relationship stages, you will be focusing on how the Ideal Standards Model explains how we select and evaluate potential romantic relationship partners (i.e., someone to start a short/long-term romantic relationship with). More specifically, you will be utilising the Ideal Standards Model to put together a self-help guide for the lay person on how to select and evaluate a potential romantic partner entitled the “Top Five Tips in Selecting and Evaluating a Potential Romantic Partner” (Part A). You will also need to write a short scientific essay that provides an evidence-based justification for the content of this self-help guide (Part B).
You will be introduced to the Ideal Standards Model in Topic 1: ‘Social cognition and ideal standards’ (in Week 1). You will also be given further explanation of this theory in Class 2 (in Week 3) when the unit team will clarify the requirements of this assignment. This is also an opportunity for students to ask any questions that they might have about the assignment and the Ideal Standards Model. For students who are unable to attend Class 2, and for those who would like to go over certain material again, please note that you will have the opportunity to review the recording of Class 2 on CloudDeakin once Class 2 has been
taken. You will be in a position to commence researching and writing up this assignment by the end of Week 3 and we strongly recommend that you start AT3 at this time.
