Assignment Outline: Final Paper
Your final paper will be used to assess your understanding of topics discussed in class to date, as well as your ability to apply these topics, theories, and models to future experience in the workplace.
Using three of the eight topics discussed prior to the final paper due date (motivation, personality, affect and attitudes, diversity in the workplace, AND the one topic prior to the midterm that you did not include in your midterm paper), you are to explain your desired career after graduating from University, and discuss how you foresee that these OB topics will apply in your future career. This paper is a combination of career goal setting and explanation (what career you would like to be in and the steps required to get you to that career), critical analysis (chosen OB topics clearly explained using academic sources to support the explanation), and, application of the OB topics to the your future career (discussion of the how you anticipate these topics to present themselves in your future career, and how you will manage these expectations).
Your paper must contain a minimum of ten (10) academic references. You may use up to five academic or professional journal articles that were discussed in class. You are responsible to find and source the remaining five (or more!) articles.
Your paper may be a MAXIMUM of twenty-five (25) double-spaced pages. This maximum does NOT include the title page, or reference page(s).
The final paper must include three sections:
- Description of the job that you would like to have after completion of University, and the steps required to obtain this job (e.g. is further education needed? Professional certification? Etc.). You do NOT need to include the proper names of the organization if you choose not to (i.e. instead of saying “I want to work at Save-on-Foods, it is acceptable to say “I want to work at a grocery retailer).
- A critical analysis of your three chosen topics.
- A critical application of the three chosen topics to your career goal. For example, if you choose to write about diversity in the workplace, discuss how you anticipate the topic of diversity to present itself in your future career. This may include positive or negative predictions, and how you would manage these predictions.
