Human Computer Interaction - Software Wireframing using Just in Mind.
Introduction – Software Wireframing using Just in Mind
For Assessment 3C you will be required to present a non-functional front end of your intended application/system. In order to advance on this we expect you to create software wireframes or user interfaces for your intended application. Just in Mind Prototyper is a free and very powerful User Interface Design/Wireframing software. It includes widget libraries (up to and including latest releases such as the latest iOS, etc); many more can be downloaded and accessed – see the widget libraries link in the vUWS module for an idea of the range of options available. But these are only the templates, Just in Mind Prototyper provides many more powerful features including: event management and setting of conditions, variable control, gestures, etc. You can even run your wireframe solution on your smart phone through the Justin Mind app. The purpose of this tutorial is to assist you in starting wireframing with Just in Mind. Remember the choice of software for Assessment 3C is your decision; hopefully an easy one after this tutorial. Instructions and choices related to downloading Just in mind have been provided in a separate announcement.
You are provided with various resources regarding Just in mind in the appropriate vUWS module. These include a comprehensive user guide and a tutorial workbook. Furthermore the website for Just in mind has a number of examples and explanations for a wide range of scenarios.
Before beginning the exercises please do read through Pages 5-10, 14, 16-20 of the Tutorial PDF for Just in Mind (found on vUWS as a file called < justinmind_prototyper_tutorials.pdf > as a basic introduction towards the features of Just in Mind.
Exercise 1
Goal: Use the events tab to control transition between Screens (based on a specific input criteria or otherwise). Steps:
1. Create a new prototype (web based) with two Screens: Screen 1 and Screen 2
2. Include an input textfield and button in Screen 1
3. Include a label in Screen 2 with message: “Successful”
Main Aim: Screen 1 will transition to Screen 2 only when the text “abcd” is present in the text box
4. Single click on the button and access the Events Tab towards the bottom of the Software window and click on Add Event
Exercise 2
Goal: Data Forms and using variables
1. Create a new prototype (web based) with two Screens: Screen 3 and Screen 4. Given in the picture below is Screen 3 (Screen 4 will be explained later).
2. Goal: To enable the user to use the tab key to move from the first text box to the second text box
3. Click on the First text box and press on the Events Tab and then Add Event as in Exercise 1
4. Chose the option on keydown and enter the TAB key as in the picture below (I could not take a correct snapshot as the word TAB disappears in the When Key text box) – the word TAB will appear when you press TAB
