Task: You will be working as a group on this assignment. Each group will be assigned a business newspaper for analysis using the course readings and class discussions as your guide. The relevant business newspapers are: The Wall Street Journal, Australian Financial Review, Financial Times, The Asian Review, The Economist, China Daily. Your group will be assigned a newspaper to review. All of these newspapers can be found in print copies in the library or on-line through factiva or one of the on-line sources. The group will analyse the newspapers from the following points:

1. Readership (target audience and relation to news stories). How does the target readership affect the content of news or advertisement? Price at newsstand and subscription.
2. Geographic coverage and selection (region – local or international or more) Does geography play a part in the selection of stories, editorials, advertising copy, etc.
3. Review of editorial page (editorials and columnists) What is the economic point of view (if identifiable)? Is it balanced, one-sided or inclusive? Who owns the newspaper?
4. Review a major business issue and Identify a pattern or point of view demonstrated by choice of authors or the placement in the newspaper
5. Extent of business coverage: local or world. What is the major focus of the newspaper?

When group members have completed their assignments, the group should meet to decide on their presentation. The group will give an oral review of their work in a 10–15 minute presentation in class. Each group member is also responsible for writing a summary (not more than 500 words) of their special area of analysis.
