You assessor will provide you with the following virtualisation software, virtual machines and network specifications.
1. Virtual environment
Virtualisation software will be used to simulate stand-alone or networked personal computers in the lab environment:
• Virtualisation Software (Hyper-V will be used as an example in this document)
o Windows Hyper-V – free with Windows Pro, Enterprise or Education.
o VMWare from VMWare.com (VMWare Workstation Player should be free for education or non-commercial usage)
o VirtualBox from VirtualBox.org
• The Virtualisation software should provide a virtual environment that includes access to the following:
o Virtual machines
o vLANs
o vSwitch
2. Network’s technical requirements

Part 2 – Analyse and documententerprise requirements
In this part of the assessment, you will be required to read through a set of enterprise policies and scenario documents todetermine the organisation’s virtualisation requirements and document recommendations and any adjustments to current resources and policies.
1. Carefully read the information provided in the following scenario documents and company policies

2. Based on the above, determinethe enterprise requirements for ROI’svirtualised network and document it in your ROI Network Virtualisation Report in section2. Enterpriserequirementsand recommendations using suitable sub-headingsfor the following:
a) Required functionality of the VE
b) Recommendations for adjustment of resources to ensure good performance in the VE.
c) Modifications that need to be done to the current organisational policies and procedures to comply with virtualisation demands/goals.
d) Recommendations for migration tools to convert physical machines to virtual machines.
e) Suggestions on deployment methods to be used.
f)  Recommendations on specific installation media for VM deployment.
g) Recommendation for using automated templates for VM deployment.
h) Recommendations on the virtual environment design strategy that can be used to ensure high availability.
i)  Recommendations on suitable resources for high availability in the virtual environment.
When providing recommendations, you may need to refer to reliable sources of information such as industry-specific or vendor websites and cite your references in the Bibliographysection of your reportusing the APA referencing style.
Please note that further information will need to be built into this report in Part 4 after consultation with the ‘client’ in Part 3.
Part 3: Presentation – liaise with clients to determine operational requirements
To complete this part of the assessment, you will be required to present the information you have researched and developed to a group of clients, answering any questions they might have and displaying positive communication and non-verbal skills.
This presentation will be observed by your assessor.
Your presentation should include:
• A PowerPoint presentation of 10 – 15 slides
• Present yourself in a professional manner
• You will have no more than 15 minutesper presentation to provide the information and answer any questions
Your responses will be used as part of the overall evidence requirements of the unit.
You should refer to the list of criteria in the Observation Checklist for Part 3 to understand what you need to demonstrate in this section of the assessment. This Checklist outlines the assessment criteria used to assess your performance.
Once completed you will need to submit your PowerPoint presentation to your assessor for marking.
Presentation Scenario: Meeting with ROI clients
You have already spent some time understanding theinitial enterprise requirements for the ROI virtualised network and have performed extensive research on the resources required and design strategies that need to be implemented. 
You now need to meetthe ROIinternal client representative, Terrence Stewart, ROI Network Manager and IT Support, to find out more about their enterprise requirements and to obtain their approval before further planning for implementation of the VE.
Attendees to this meeting will includeTerrence Stewart, ROI Network Manager and IT Support. The agenda for this meeting is to discuss;
1.The functionality of the VE including high availability requirements
2.The process of monitoring and adjustment of resources for performance in VE
3.The selection and use of suitable migration tools
4.The selection of appropriate deployment methods
5.The use of specific installation media for VM deployment
6.The use of specific automated templates for VM deployment
7.The VE design strategy for high availability
8.The selection of suitable resources for high availability implementation according to enterprise requirements.
Terrence has a very high level of IT technical knowledge and is very familiar with the network.He will expect you to be able to talk in highly technical terms.
You must keep notes of any advice given by your clients during the presentation as you will need this information to complete tasks later in this assessment.
For your presentation the assessor will organise for a suitable group of individuals, such as another teacher, student or industry representative, to play the roles of the clients;Terrence Stewart, ROI Network Manager and IT Support.
Observation Checklist for Part 3 (Presentation)
The Observation Checklist will be used by your assessor to mark your performance in the previous assessment event type. Use this checklist to understand what skills you need to demonstrate in the role play. The Checklist outlines the assessment criteria used to determine whether you have successfully completed this assessment event. All the criteria must be met. Your demonstration will be used as part of the overall evidence requirements of the unit. The assessor may ask questions while the demonstration is taking place or if appropriate directly after the activity has been completed.

Part 4: Product – Plan and design an advanced virtual computing environment
In this part of the assessment, you will be planning and designing the virtual network environment to suit the enterprise environment.  This will include your virtual network design and functionality, resource selection, the core infrastructure storage environment, administrative strategy, high-availability strategy and backup strategy.
Task 1: Modify previously documented enterprise requirements
Using the information discussed and notes made during your presentationto your ROI clients in Part 3, updatethe enterprise requirements for the ROI virtualised network. Ensure that you include information relating to;
a)The functionality of the VE incorporating the design strategy for high availability requirements
b)Deployment method - select a suitable deployment method to deploy VMs to the ROI virtual network.Explain why you have chosen this deployment method.
c)Resources - identify and select suitable resources required for the virtual environment including the use of currently available advanced technologies. You must include the reasons for your choice of resource. Your resource selection should include;
• Resources that enable good performance in the VE
• Resources required when using migration tools
• Resources relevant for the selected deployment method/s 
• Resources for high availability.
Document these updated enterprise requirements in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportundersection 2.EnterpriseRequirementsusing suitable sub-headings.
Task 2: Plan and design the core virtual network environment for ROI’s VE
Refer to the up-to-date enterprise requirements from Task 1to planand create adesignfor ROI’s core virtual network environment using an appropriate network design software (e.g. Microsoft Visio, draw.io).
Ensure that your design reflects the strategy to ensure high availability in the virtualised environment.
Include a copy of the core virtual network environment design in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder section 2. Virtual computing environment plans and designsusing a suitable sub-heading.
Task 3: Plan and design the core infrastructure storage environment for ROI’s VE
Refer to the up-to-date enterprise requirements from Task 1 to plan and create a design for ROI’s core infrastructure storage environment. Include the following as part of your plan;
a)Research technical storage specifications and system requirements from virtualisation software vendors to ensure virtual storage meets the organisation’s requirements.Include the results of this research as part of your plan and strategy.
Note: Refer to reliable sources of information such as industry-specific or vendor websites and cite your references in the Bibliographysection of your reportusing the APA referencing style.
b)Create a design for the Core Infrastructure Storage Environment for ROI’s VE.
This needs to include any virtual storage as well asany measures for securing the connection. You may use appropriate design software (e.g. Microsoft Visio, draw.io) to further illustrate/present your design.
Include a copy of your Infrastructure Storage Environmentdesign in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder section 3.Virtual computing environment plans and designsusingsuitable sub-headings.
Task 4: Plan and design the administrative strategies for ROI’s VE
Plan and design the administrative strategies to be implemented in the ROI’s VE. Ensure that you include the following administrative design strategies as part of your plan;
a)Details of the user privileges and permissions for both admin and general user’s accounts.
b)Details of the domain setup to ensure a secure virtual network connection. 
Note: This should be a client-server environment which does not allow for the use of local user accounts. 
c)Details relevant to the single-sign on approach. 
Document the above administrative strategies in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder section 3. Virtual computing environment plans and designsusing a suitable sub-heading.

Task 5: Plan and design backup strategy for ROI’s VE
In this task you will modify organisational policies and procedures, to comply with legislative requirements and the organisation’s goals. 
Scenario:
As part of the transition to a virtualised network the client, Terrence Stewart, ROI Network Manager and IT Support has realised that the policies and procedures, relating to backup and recovery,need to be updated. He has asked that you to prepare a new policy document which outlines the details of how to backup data on the server VMs in the Virtual environment.
As the data stored on a server could relate to private information, there also needs to be considerations about how backup should be stored to comply with the government legislation and guidelines relating to privacy. To clarify this Terrence has direct you to look at the following https://www.oaic.gov.au/privacy/guidance-and-advice/guide-to-securing-personal-information/#s4-taking-appropriate-steps-and-putting-into-place-strategies-to-protect-personal-information. 
Terrence has pointed out that this document needs to be similar in content and tone to the original ROI Data Backup Policy. You may reuse any text that you deem suitable for the new document.
To do:
Create a strategy (e.g. plan/approach) that will apply to backup and recovery of a virtual machine in the virtual network. It needs to include;
a)Policy for backing up server VMs in the VE
b)Information on storage of backups to comply with government legislation and guidelines relating to privacy. All relevant legislation should be listed here
c)The use and integration of a third-party software tool
d)Procedure for restoring a virtual server in the VE.

Document the above backup strategy and new data backup policy in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder section 3. Virtual computing environment plans and designsusing a suitable sub-heading.
Part 5:Practical – Configure and manage the core virtual network
In this part of the assessment you will be creating the virtual network to suit the enterprise requirements. This includes creating and deploying VMs in the virtualised environment.
Refer toPart 1 of this assessment for recommended tools, specifications, equipment and software when performing each of the demonstration tasks given below. You may also refer to the ROI Network Virtualisation Report you’ve created in Part 4 for relevant information for relevant enterprise requirements documented.
Task 1: Configure main virtualisation host VM
Install (if required), update and configure the main virtualisation hostaccording to the enterprise requirements. Ensure that you do the following: 
a)Allocate enough resources to this main Host according to the technical specifications.
b)If this is a new installation, name this main host as Host_yournamewhere yournameis your full name.
c)Install, update and configure the main virtualisation host as appropriate.
d)Test your configuration of the main virtualisation host to verify that the functionality has been correctly implemented. 
e)Monitor resources of the virtual environment using an appropriate performance monitoring tool. 
f)Adjust the resources allocated the main Host to ensure performance of the VE. 
g)Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix A - Configuration of core virtual networkusingsuitable sub-headings.
Task 2: Create and deploy VMs using installation media
a) Create and deploy the following VMs inside your Main Host, using the recommended tools and installation media outlined in Part 1.
• ROI-A-01
• ROI-DC
• ROI-SRV-01
• ROI-SRV-02
b) Test your configurationfor each of these VMs to verify that the functionality has been correctly implemented. 
c) Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix A - Configuration of core virtual networkusingsuitable sub-headings.
Task 3: Configure essential services within the virtual network environment
a) Add the following services ADDS, DNS and DHCP in your ROI-DC server VM according to the enterprise requirements. Refer to the technical specifications in Part 1 for detailed instructions.
b) Once you have finished configuring DNS, add all host’s forward lookup record.
c) Test your configuration of the ROI-DC serverto verify that the functionality has been correctly implemented. 
d) Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix A - Configuration of core virtual networkusingsuitable sub-headings.

Part 6: Practical – Secure the virtual environment
In this part of the assessment, you will be securing the virtual environment according to enterprise requirements. This includes configuring user privileges, permissions and enabling single sign-on capability in the virtual environment.
Refer to Part 1 of this assessment for recommended tools, specifications, equipment and software when performing each of the demonstration tasks given below. You may also refer to the ROI Network Virtualisation Report you’ve created in Part 4 for relevant information for relevant enterprise requirements documented.
Task 1: Configure user privileges and permissions
You now need to set-up user privileges and permissionsfor the enterprise environment.As part of this, you will configure the user roles to administer the virtual environment.
Complete thistask according to the enterprise requirements and as planned in the ROI Network Virtualisation Report.To do this:
a) Create an admin user account called ROIUser.Adminin thevclass.local (or testlab.local) domain and add this user account to appropriate administrative roles.
b) Ensure appropriate privileges and permissions for the admin user role have been set.
c) Create a standard domain user account called, ROIUser.yourname (where yournameis your full name) in thevclass.local (or testlab.local) domain and add this account to the appropriate standard domain user roles.
d) Ensure appropriate privileges and permissions for the standard domain user role have been set. 
e) Make ROI-A-01 a client of vclass.local (or testlab.local) domain.
f) Now you are required to configure administration of your virtual environment. Do this by enabling Remote Desktop access on ROI-DC (SRV2016S1 in screenshots) for Administrators. Test this configuration by first logging to the ROI-A-01 (Windows 10 in screenshots) VM using the ROIUser.yourname account, then login again by using the domain admin account.
g) Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix B – Securing virtual environmentusingsuitable sub-headings.
Task 2: Configure single sign-on for vCenter Server Appliance access
You now need to enablesingle sign-on for the virtual network:
a) Configure ROI-SRV-01 (SRV2016S2) and ROI-SRV-02 (SRV2016S3)” to use ROI-DC (SRV2016S1) as a DNS server.
b) Make ROI-SRV-01 a client (member server) of vclass.local (or testlab.local) domain.
c) Make ROI-SRV-02 a client (member server) of vclass.local (or testlab.local) domain.
d) Test your single sign-on configuration to verify that the functionality has been correctly implemented.
e)    Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix B – Securing the virtual environmentusingsuitable sub-headings.
Task 3: Configure vSwitch and VLAN for virtual network security
You need network access to create VLAN and logical boundaries. By doing the following configuration, you are required to maintain the network topology according to the agreed core virtual network design.
a) Use Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager to create External (or Default Switch) and Private (named SAN in the screenshots) vSwitches.
b) Add two additional Network Adapters to ROI-DC (SRV2016S1). Connect one of these to the Default Switch and one to the Private (SAN) vSwitch. Add one additional network adapter to ROI-SRV-01 (SRV2016S2) & ROI-SRV-02 (SRV2016S3). Connect the additional adapter to the Private (SAN) vSwitch.
c) Create a VLAN in your Private (SAN) vSwitch to separate the storage area network and to implement security.
d) Configured NIC teaming on ROI-DC (SRV2016S1) for the adapters connected to the External (or Default Switch) to improve network performance and network redundancy.
e) Enable Dynamic MAC addresses, DHCP guard and Router guard on both External (or Default) network adapters on ROI-DC (SRV2016S1).
f) Configure your network traffic shaping by configuring minmimum and maximum bandwidths on the Private (SAN) network adapter on on ROI-DC (SRV2016S1).
g) Create an Internal vSwitch with the name Management so that other devices on the external network cannot find the connected deivces.
h) Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix B – Securing the virtual environmentusingsuitable sub-headings.
Task 4: Configure and implement network security for virtual storage connections
In this task you will create, configure and secure the virtual storage connection according to the enterprise requirements.Do the following according to the detailed specifications provided to you:
a) Create the three (3) iSCSI LUNs using C drive (or another drive if more appropriate)as the target drive.
b) Use the Private (SAN) vSwitch from the previous task to create an IP Storage Network to implement security for storage connections.
Note: use the correct IP addressing scheme as per the topology design
c) Configure your vSwitch to host software iSCSI storage for each of the three LUNs.
d) Test your configuration of the virtual storageto verify that the functionality has been correctly implemented.
e) Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix B – Securing the virtual environmentusingsuitable sub-headings.
Task 5: Install and manage local and shared data stores
Configure the following using the LUNs created in the previous tasks:
a) Create datastores within the iSCSI Target. Name the datastores as CSV, DATA and WITNESS accordingly.
b) Allocate the LUNs created in the previous tasks into the above datastores according to your core storage network design plan in the ROI_Network_Virtualistaion_Report.
c) Create data store clusters and resource pools.
d) Demonstrate the task of expanding the datastore capacity by increasing the free space of one of the LUNs.
e) Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix B – Securing the virtual environmentusingsuitable sub-headings.
Task 6: Manage and secure the virtual data storage connections
In this task you will manage and perform further configurations to secure the virtual data storage connections.
a) Configure CHAP to secure the virtual storage connection.
b) Test your configuration of the virtual storageto verify that the functionality has been correctly implemented.
c) Log your actions, configuration and testing process, including relevant screenshots in your ROI Network Virtualisation Reportunder Appendix B – Securing the virtual environmentusingsuitable sub-headings.

Task 1: Convert computer from Physical to Virtual
Note: For this task your assessor will provide you with a prepared physical machine to convert to a virtual machine. 
In this task you will use migration toolsto convert a physical machine to a virtual machineaccording to the enterprise requirements.
Migration Tools may include (but are not limited to):
• Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.0 - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42497
• Disk2vhd v2.01 - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/disk2vhd
• vCenter converter version 6.2.0.1
To do this:
a) Using the migration tool, convert the supplied physical machine to a virtual machine. Call this VM ROI-Convert. Place this virtual machine inside your virtual environment.
b) Ensure that youfollow the specifications set out in Part 1 and your ROI Network Virtualisation Report.
