IT Assessment Answer

Assignment Task: ICTSAS425 Assessment Conditions Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances should be typical of those experienced in the systems and administration support field of work, and include access to special purpose tools, equipment, materials and industry software packages including:
  • personal computer where installation may be performed
  • OS software
  • technical documentation
  • organisational documentation.
Reasonable Adjustment - ICTSAS425 If you have identified as having a disability this assessment may be modified. A modified assessment will still require you to demonstrate satisfactory performance and knowledge. Reasonable Adjustment cannot alter the outcome of the task. Introduction - ICTSAS425 On successful completion of this unit, learners should be able to configure, maintain and troubleshoot operating system (OS) software to ensure organisational requirements and client needs are met. Description of what you have to do - ICTSAS425 You have been given a scenario involving the selection and installation of a new operating system for a client. You must perform research to identify the best operating system for the situation and once approved you must then complete the installation, configuration and testing of the system. You are also asked to identify and rectify any faults with various operating systems as they are presented. After reading the notes from your resources, complete the enclosed exercises, relating them to the IT industry. Use the Internet and other resources for extra information. Ensure you reference all sources of information appropriately. Students are able to have questions clarified by a teacher. Scenario: ICTSAS425 You are currently employed as a Technical Support Officer at ITHelp4U - a student-run Helpdesk located at your local TAFE campus. ITHelp4U provides IT support and training to students and staff at the campus, as well as to the general public. GreatDesignsRus, a past business client, has again requested the services of ITHelp4U and you have been allocated the following task. The local design company owner Martin Webb, has heard on the grapevine that their current operating system will no longer be supported by Microsoft and he is very worried about the consequences if they continue to use it in their business. ICTSAS425 They currently have all 5 staff computers in the business installed with Windows XP, so that they could run an in-house design application. They are now considering converting over to Adobe Creative Cloud for their design software needs – specifically Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop. They will also require word processing, spreadsheet and database software. They would really like to keep their current hardware as these machines were only recently upgraded. All 5 staff computers are currently connecting to the internet wirelessly, with a 6th computer acting as a web server. Currently, the web server is run using IIS – Internet Information Services. GreatDesignsRus need to meet all requirements relating to the licencing of software and are willing to pay for the most appropriate solution as required. The business budget for computer hardware and software is $20,000 per annum. ICTSAS425 As a design business the protection of intellectual property and electronic files from theft and damage is a major priority and must be considered as part of any solution. Your supervisor would like you to investigate the client needs and provide a suitable solution. Your teacher will act as your client, Martin Webb, if you need any further information or clarification. Task One: Identify available Operating Systems - ICTSAS425 Investigate at least 3 suitable operating systems for the given scenario and contrast and compare each in relation to the client needs. Answer the following questions in a professional report for submission to your client.
  1. Compare and contrast the latest stable releases of the following Operating Systems (OS) P
    1. Mac OS
    2. Ubuntu
    3. Microsoft Windows (include a comparison of 32 bit versus 64 bit as appropriate)
  • You are required to access and research OS vendor sites to obtain the technical specifications and system requirements of each operating system.
  • Ensure you highlight the major differences between the Operating Systems
  • Ensure you highlight the major features of the different operating systems
  • You are to reference all sources of information
  1. What are your clients’ licensing, hardware, software and security requirements? P You may need to contact your client (your teacher) to obtain this information if not provided within this assessment.
  • The hardware specifications for the computers are Core i5 2.7GHz with 8GB RAM.
  • All software products must be licenced (Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop).
  • The network, computers and specific files need to be secured from unauthorised access.
  1. Provide a recommendation as to which operating system will be the most suitable for your client and justify your reasons.
I recommend Windows 10 as an operating system which can meet client’s requirement and will be the most suitable for my client because hardware requirements for the installation of Windows 10 are 1 gigahertz or latest processor and 1GB RAM and client’s hardware specifications for the computers are corei5 2.7 GHz with 8GB RAM. Entire software products are licensed in Windows 10. It has windows defender to protect files from viruses and we can install antivirus, network security software, and other security software in Windows 10 to protect network, computers and specific files from unauthorized access. Task Two: Resolve problems using operating system tools - ICTSAS425 For each of the following situations identify the command line options and system tools, where both are available, to troubleshoot these common operating system problems. These problems are directly related to the Windows operating system. If you are using a different operating system please adapt these issues to your chosen operating system. Task Three: Install, configure and optimise Operating System software - ICTSAS425 Your client, GreatDesigns4u, has accepted your proposal from Task One and would like you to go ahead with the installation. Martin Webb has also provided some configuration requirements for the operating system setup. You may need to contact your client for any details omitted.
  • Ensure you refer to the extract from the Policy and Procedures Manual of your client.
  • At this time you are only required to complete this task on one staff PC and the web server.
  • You will need to arrange a suitable time with your client for this installation to be completed to ensure minimal disruption to the client and staff. This could be done via email.
  • Back up the website, user and corporate data on both machines before starting.
  • Perform a upgrade of the new operating system/s.
  • Configure the installation and interface using the configuration settings as shown in the attached Policy and Procedures Extract at the end of this document.
  • Create an appropriate directory structure on each machine to accommodate the user files, user profiles, shared. See the current configuration details provided with this paper.
  • Reinstall the student data backed up in step 1 of the task.
  • Create shortcuts on the desktop to the following:
    • The Shared Documents folder.
    • Kuler.com.
  • Setup the Designs folder as a virtual drive labelled Designs, J drive.
  • Ensure the boot order has been changed to an appropriate order.
  • Install an antivirus application.
  • Create a connection to the internet wirelessly.
  • Test the new operating system against the client requirements before demonstrating to your client.
  • Identify and record any problems and implement strategies for resolution.
  • Demonstrate the use of command line code to show a connection to the internet. Provide a screen dump.
  • Demonstrate the use of command line code to show the current IP address of the computer. Provide a screen dump.
Task Four: Provide instruction for new Operating System implementation: ICTSAS425 You have completed the installation and testing and are now required to train the staff at GreatDesigns4U on the new operating system. The training will particularly need to concentrate on the major differences between their previous Window XP operating system and the new operating system you have installed. Task Five: Obtain client signoff of the new Operating System installation: ICTSAS425 Obtain client evaluation about the new system to ensure requirements are met. To do this you will need to design a questionnaire or survey for your client to complete. This is to ensure that you have met their requirements. If there are things that you have not completed correctly or accurately, please remedy and have the client re-evaluate and sign-off. Your teacher will act as the client. This list of questions is too
  1. much for a client evaluation.  The evaluation should be provided to the client soon after the installation to ensure they are happy to pay for the installation.  Many of these questions should be part of your testing to make sure the operating system is installed correctly rather than for the client to test.
The questionnaire should be formatted in the form of an actual questionnaire – not just a list of questions.  The questions should relate to the client requirements that you were given.
  • Does the operating system boot fast?
  • Are all the major features present and able to use?
  • Does it allow drivers like audio, graphics to install and update it?
  • Does all drives works properly?
  • Does it contain any security programs for files?
  • Are you able to install all the business required software properly?
  • Does software run smoothly with required hardware?
  • Are all the products licensed?
  • Does it allow other software to be installed like database software?
  • Is the internet working?
Forward the completed evaluation report to your ITHelp4u supervisor (teacher). Task Six: Mobile Operating System - ICTSAS425 An external student, Sally Smith, has an Android Tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 installed, and it has started to run slowly. Investigate issues with this mobile operating system and recommend a solution.
  1. Your solution should include at least 5 things that can be done to improve the performance of this operating system.
Write the instructions in a format that can be given to the client to follow and complete herself. If you recommend upgrading the Operating System, then you must also include:
  • the system requirements for checking with the client;
  • the steps for Sally to follow in order to complete the upgrade herself.
Issues with android tablet with ice cream sandwich 4.0 installed and recommended solution are:

  1. Performance issues because of rough appP
Recommended solution - ICTSAS425 Device can be boot into safe mode to check if the issue is with an application or not. If the problem is not seen in safe mode then issue is with an application. In this case we can erase last few applications that we have introduced before the issue begun or we can likewise reset a device and begin once more.
  1. Performance issues because of system updates and additional bloatware apps
We install system update and that might not have been pleasantly optimized for our device and Maker may have included bloatware applications in an update as a result of which device gets slow down. Recommended solution
  • Uninstalling unused applications
  • Removing widgets
  • Disabling live wallpapers and
  • Uninstalling or disabling background applications
  1. Performance Issue because of full storageP
Only little room is available for an operating system to execute if a storage is full or do not have enough space. As a result device gets slow (Cameron, 2017). Recommended solution - ICTSAS425
