While completing this project you should also work on your Usability Testing assessment. The Usability Testing will help you develop your website to its full potential. The two assessments are designed to be completed at the same time with some overlap. Introduction
  • Your task is to develop a website using a mobile-first approach.
  • Choose a topic unique to you. This can be anything, but it must not be the same as other students.
  • The website must consist of a minimum of three XHTML pages created using a text editor and at least one CSS page also created using a text editor.
  • The website must include links, images, and semantic elements, be responsive to screen size, and use at least one media query.
  • Your code must be written to conform to current CSS, HTML5, and XHTML standards.
Part 1 - Research Research and document the following;
  1. The target audience of the website.
  2. Purpose and uses of the website.
  3. User requirements of the website.
  4. Website components
  5. Website sections.
  6. The appropriate markup language to be used.
Part 2 – Design Document the following;
  1. Evaluate suitable website components. (2 marks)
  2. Determine the document structure, identifying elements to be used.(2 marks)
  3. Create wireframes for your website. (2 marks)
  4. Identify the fonts, images, and colour scheme to be implemented. (2 marks)
Part 3 – Implement
  1. Create the website including the components/elements identified during the Research and Design stages.
  2. Create and assign the elements of the document considering accessibility, ensuring maximum user satisfaction, through the ease of navigation controls and design.
  3. Ensure that user and legal, accessibility, privacy, and equity requirements and expectations are met.
Part 4 – Style
  1. Apply CSS to all XHTML pages in your project.
  2. Style various elements of your XHTML pages using CSS to match the design specifications.
  3. Use media queries and a responsive design to style the document to suit various devices, including mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers.
Part 5 – Test and Validate
  1. Validate your website against the requirements identified in the Research stage and record the outcomes.
  2. Test your website in at least three browsers for compatibility. Document any issues that may arise. Ensure functionality is correct and provide screenshots as evidence.
  3. Use the W3C Markup Validation Service and ensure your XHTML files validate successfully. Check your files with a HTML file extension and a XHTML file extension.
  4. Check your files are valid XHTML5.
  5. Use the W3C CSS Validation Service and ensure your CSS files validate successfully.
  6. Use the online Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool or a WAVE Browser Extensions to help ensure your site is highly accessible. Ensure your site is error free.
