You are at a marketing research firm and asked to do the following project:
Your client as one of the telco company, Mobile88, would like to have new Student Telco Plan in next year. Your client wants you to provide an analysis of the students’ preference on telco plans. You may make your own decision on the THREE types of telco plans that your client may have.

You need to check whether the provided type telco plans will be influenced by the
(1) gender,
(2) monthly income/pocket money owning by student,
(3) monthly time (in hours) spent online and
(4) monthly time (in hours) spent on calls.
You need to collect a set of 30 data for the above variables among your friends or the students in Taylor’s campus and recorded in an Excel spreadsheet. During submission, you need to include the Excel spreadsheet and briefly explain on the THREE types of telco plans that you recommended to Mobile88. [5 marks]
Then, you will use the collected data set of monthly income/pocket money and the monthly time (in hours) spent online OR the monthly time (in hours) spent on calls to carry out the following correlation and regression analysis.

1. Identify and state clearly the independent and dependent variable. [2 marks]
2. Use Excel to construct a scatter plot for the independent and dependent variable. The plot
must include the trend line.

 

3. Use Excel to generate a summary output for regression analysis.

 

4. Based on the summary output in part 3.,
a. Develop a regression equation
b. Interpret the value of y-intercept and slope.


5. Based on your analysis, do you think that the dependent variable is explained by the independent variable? Explain your reasons. [4 marks]
6. Explain on the reliability of using the regression equation to predict the dependent variable [5 marks]
7. Predict the dependent variable by using the median (use Excel to find) of your independent variable. Show the working clearly. [1 mark]
8. State another TWO independent variables (not stated in the question) which may influence the dependent variable you chosen.
