Scenario

As the HR Business Partner, you have been approached by Nadia, a line manager, about a conflict between two of her employees, Alex and Ashley. 

Alex came to Nadia to report that due to the staggered start and finish times in their area, any time that Nadia leaves first, Ashley leaves 15 minutes later. Ashley always has a 'reason' such as a doctor's appointment, a headache or an emergency at home. None of these issues are raised until after Nadia has left for the day. As Alex works the same shift as Ashley, she is constantly being asked to cover for Ashley and has run out of patience. When she told Ashley that it wasn't appropriate, Ashley just told her to mind her own business. 

Following on from the grievance scenario above (Please see appendix A ), you need to host a meeting with Alex and Ashley to try and resolve any personal grievances and prevent the escalation of their conflict.

Specifications

 In the recorded meeting you must demonstrate the following:

• active listening skills

• clear and accessible presentation of information 

• identifying and articulating the issues

• providing advice and support to both employees

• suggesting solutions to the issue including strategies on strengthening relationships

• treating both employees with respect, fairness and equality

• avoiding display of any discriminatory behaviour towards either employee.

You must also:

• reference at least one award, agreement or piece of legislation, in process of advising the parties. 

Video recording instructions

In recording the video, you must meet the following criteria:

1. The recording must be carried out as per the instructions in the Open Colleges ‘Digital Recording Handbook’ found on OpenSpace. 

2. Your video must be simulated as a role-play according to the scenario provided. You will need to engage at least two individuals to participate.
