Background
Trade restrictions from the U.S Government on Huawei Inc., led the company to develop the operating system, Harmony OS. As a result, the company employees were working under the pressure of strict deadlines and extreme workload. According to CBC News (2019), Ren Zhengfei the founder of Huawei states that “the company is moving its research center from the U.S to Canada”. Our employees were expected to deal with significant research problems. These two factors led to a rise in workplace stress among employees and affected their work performance negatively. Consequently, the company was losing both revenue and customers. In a Stress pulse survey conducted in 2006, the results revealed 46% of stress is caused by workload.
Purpose
To solve the problem from the root, workplace stress had to be reduced. So the HR management team proposed implementing Stress Management Interventions as it is the most effective solution. The interventions assist to lower the workplace stress which leads to a decrease in absenteeism and an increase in revenue. This report shows the Interventions' impact on employee work performance and the company`s profit.
Definition
Nowadays, workplace stress is a major problem in every organization. Workplace stress can be described as a physical or emotional disorder that occurs when one’s capabilities are unable to match the demands or requirements of the job (Mood Disorders Society of Canada, n.d.). Hans Selye, known as the father of stress research, identified “stress as a foundation for nonspecific signs and symptoms of illness.” (Tan, 2018, p.6). Stress can be positive and negative. While positive stress makes people motivated, negative stress makes people feel over pressured.
Methods
The statistic used to determine the problem is a secondary source that included researchabout the impacts of workplace stress on absenteeism and the company`s revenue. After researching the types of stress management programs, we concluded that Stress Management Interventions were more efficient than other programs as the Interventions recommended mental based and skill-based training separately for junior and senior employees.
