This company is headquartered in Ottawa, and has regional offices located in Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver. There are 2000 employees located in the Ottawa office, and an additional 1000 employees located across the regional offices. From a technical standpoint, the company has a strict policy of purchasing and using only Windows based PC technology, software and equipment. You report into the Director of HR. The Director has asked you to research and provide advice on several important HRIS issues at the company. Please prepare and provide your input to the following questions:

1. The company has recently completed an HRIS assessment, and has confirmed that their existing HRIS system has become outdated both technically and functionally. Specifically the assessment highlighted very specific concerns in the area of recruitment and selection administration. The company is currently having great difficulty in posting online job openings and accepting and processing digital resume submissions. In addition, the company would like to introduce an automated approach to track applicants, schedule selection interviews and process job offers. The Director of HR would like to proceed with an HRIS selection process to identify a suitable new HRIS system for the company, and has asked you to answer the following four questions:

a) Please identify and describe the steps involved in an HRIS selection process.

b) Please conduct some high level research to identify three HRIS software packages that would be appropriate to include in a selection process for this company’s HRIS. Please identify each software application, the associated company that produces it, and briefly provide rationale as to why each HRIS package would be suitable for this company. c) Please describe what a cost-benefit analysis is and the types of costs and benefits that an HRIS cost benefit analysis should include. Provide rationale on why it would be appropriate to conduct such an analysis for this company’s HRIS selection process. Please support your answer with at least one peer reviewed journal article.

d) Please prepare a simple request for information evaluation chart that would be appropriate to use in relation to the company’s requirements.

2. The Director of HR understands that the implementation process for a new HRIS can be quite complex. Given this, the Director would like for you to provide the following:

a) Please identify and describe the steps that would be involved in implementing an HRIS at this company. Please support your answer with at least two peer reviewed journal articles.

b) Please prepare a simple GANTT chart to help illustrate the elements of an appropriate HRIS implementation plan for this company. This can be prepared using Word, Excel or MS Project. If using Excel or MS Project, submit the GANTT chart file separately as part of your Turnitin submission for the exam.
