Scenario: 

You as an intern have been assigned as one of the team members that will be upgrading your current company network. Your company wants to expand their business by opening one more branch. Currently, your company has 3 physically separated offices. From a network perspective, they are identified as HQ, Branch 1 (B1), and Branch 2 (B2). HQ has a connection to the Internet. As shown in Figure 1, B1 and B2 reach the internet via HQ. The current network is being implemented using static routing. Basic switch security is being applied and only 3 users are allowed to access the device remotely. The public addresses dynamically configured at the company are 209.168.201.0/29.  

Since the company wants to expand the network and also taking advantage of an optimized VLSM addressing scheme, the current static routing implementation has become irrelevant. Thus, dynamic routing implementation is being more efficient to be implemented. A  new routing protocol must be configured. The new branch network is connected directly with the HQ network, a redundant path is also provided between B2 and B3 (new branch). The network address for the new branch is 172.20.0.0/16. The connection between the routers will be using the remaining subnet address from the 10.0.0.0/30 network.

Task 1: 

This task is to help you understanding the current network implementation and preparing yourself with the new network topology. Based on the scenario given, answer the following questions and document it. (Note: This task will be evaluated using assignment report rubrics) 

Questions: 

1. Based on Figure 1, produce an addressing table. (Note: You need to assign the first  IP address for all LANs to the router interface and assign HQ the first IP address for  all WAN links to Branch routers) 

 

2. Identify the remote network addresses for each router in Figure 1. 

3. Based on Question 2, write an appropriate static route statement for each router.

4. Determine ONE (1) method that can be used to reduce the size of the routing table.  Examine Figure 1 and apply the said method. Show the steps involved if necessary. 

5. Since the company wants to expand its network, the current static routing implementation  is no longer suitable. RIP version 2 (RIPv2) is proposed as the routing protocol.  Discuss the advantage of RIPv2 over RIPv1 and give ONE (1) example of how it possible to be implemented.  

6. Based on your observation, propose other enhancement(s) that will enhance your company network performance. Discuss your answer. (Note: Include an example of  configuration command(s) that may be involved) 

7. Modify the network topology shown in Figure 1 based on your answers in Question 6.  Draw the new proposed network topology and insert appropriate information into the topology.
