In 2019, South Africa’s largest artisanal gin brand, Inverroche, sold a majority stake of the company to Pernod Ricard, the world’s second-largest producer of wine and spirits. Inverroche grew from a small home industry in 2011, to the country’s largest manufacturer of artisanal gin by 2019. The company is based in Stillbaai. Lorna Scott, the founder of the company, will continue on as leader of the business and as a shareholder. Prior to the sale, Inverroche was already selling its product in 18 countries on 4 continents. However, this deal ‘increases Pernod Ricard’s presence in Sub-Saharan African, where gin growth is gaining ground. Big players in the industry courted Inverroche, but Scott said it was about finding the right business partner to take the brand to new consumers.’ According to Scott, regardless of the international ownership of Inverroche, their gin will always be made in Stillbaai.
