Two beann of equal length, I, ate arranged as shown. The beams ate aligned at right angles to each other. Beam DE can be considered simply supported and beam AC Is fixed at point A and a concentrated load, P. is applied at the end of the beam at point C. Beam AC rests on beam DE at point B. Point 8 is located at the mid-point of beam OF. Your client is interested in exploring the behaviour of the structure, with a specific focus on the behaviour of the structure as the position of beam DE Is varied in relation to beam AC. The position of beam DE relative to point A is described by variable, d. You will explore the design by varying d between 0.25Led<0.75L At all times beam DE remains perpendicular to beam AC. The two beam are made from the same material and have the same bending rigidity, El. 

To analyse the limits of the proposed design you wal: a) Determine the magnitude of the contact face acting between Seams AC and DF. The contact force should be derived in terms of the variable d. You can assume that beam AC can be represented as a cantilever beam with an elastic support at point B (to represent the stiffness of beam DE).

b) Create a plot of the maximum deflection of Point C as d ilvaried for the range stated above. (2 marks) 
c) Fe. beam AC create a plot of the maximum bending moment and shear force as d is varied for the range stated above. (2 marks) 
d) If the length of Beam DE was doubled, what impact would this have on the contact force at point B and deflection at point C. Justify your answer with suitable calculations. Keep you answer in generalised form P. E.4 d etc)
