•Medical History: you are an Indian woman, 62 year old who has had diabetes for over 20 years. You live in a small village in Ayrshire. You had a stroke in year 2000 which affected your right arm. You had eye problems (diabetes related) before but it hasn’t got worse.
•Medication: you take drugs for blood pressure, your diabetes, cholesterol, a “blood thinner” and pain killers. The drugs include acarbose which makes you feel dreadful so you don’t take it. The other drugs you try very hard to remember to take. The pharmacy makes up boxes so you just open a compartment at the right time and take what is in there (after removing the acarbose).
•Social aspect: You live with your husband and your son’s family. Your son and the daughter-in-law are busy with work so they are not normally at home or come home very late. You live upstairs in your house and only come down once a week or so.
•Diet: You try to be healthy but cannot cook now as you cannot use your right hand to stir food when cooking while the your hand is holding the pot. Your family cooks sometimes for your but you do not trust your husband to cook good food or cook it well so you tend to have snacks to keep you going. You think you are a little overweight. You do not drink alcohol or smoke.
•Complaint: You feel you have awful health as you feel tired all the time. You dislike having to take so many medicines all the time. You cannot walk much because of your tiredness, You cannot sleep well at night because of a very sore back. You cannot move your right hand much because of the stroke. You feel you cannot do much nowadays and you only have bowel movement every 2-3 days
•Medical result: You know that your blood glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure are good.
