Background and context
The aim of this essay is to reduce the infection rates among the aged care facility and maintain high compliance for infection prevention and control practices among the facility members. According to Sendall, McCosker and Halton (2019), it was found that five moments of hand hygiene are issues by the World Health Organization (WHO).This is strictly followed by all the health care settings and environmental cleaning practice safe also issued by the Centers of Diseases control and Prevention (CDC). When the health professional maintains these practices then the risk of transmission of infectious agents from the infected patient to healthy nurse or healthy cleaning staff members would decrease. The Australian health professional ensures the use of hand rubs to ensure that all the germs on the hands as well as on the operating surface are killed. In the aged care facilities, the older patients need assistance for their dressing, toileting and other personal hygiene factors; therefore, the health professionals are staff members are required to maintain soap, toilet paper, clean washrooms, and clean bedsheets (Queensland Government 2021). The hands of the patients are required to the cleaned with soap and water or other hand rubs solutions before and after eating and the dressing or operating site is also required to be cleaned with antiseptic solutions with appropriate (Queensland Government 2021). It has been found that these standards are not strictly followed by the facility members leading to high infection rates among the patients due to poor compliance (see if we can find reference).

The health professionals are responsible to ensure that the right method of elimination so that hygiene is maintained and contamination rates are reduced. Among the aged care facility, the issues of cough and sneezing are very common, therefore, the health professionals should ensure that they provide the patients with masks, educate them to sneeze in their elbows and maintain environmental hygiene for them to prevent risks of infection spread (van Dijk, Mulder and Erasmus et al. 2019). However, in the facility the new registered nurses are found to have poor infection prevention awareness because they are found not maintaining appropriate way of discarding, their nails are often painted, they do not close the lid of dustbins, have limited use of sanitisers, and many other factors were reported during the initial observation. According to NHMRC (2021), the infection gets transferred from the droplet, air or direct contact modes, if standard and transmission-based precautions are undertaken then they will act as barriers in preventing the contamination risks. Hand Hygiene has been found to be effective in preventing the outbreak of gastroenteritis (NSW health, 2016) (Mohammadreza , Farnaz , Soheila, & Sahar , 2020), COVID-19 and effective management of risks. The following sections will discuss the national and international standards and guidelines and gaps in the facility.
