Research report Assignment:
Correlational research examines the extent of one characteristic or variable that are related to one or more other characteristics of variables, that is a correlation exists if one variable increases and at the same time, another variable increases or decreases in a predictable way (Leedy & Ormrod, 2013). The danger with correlational studies is that there may be a faulty logic characteristic that supposedly influences the other (Leedy & Ormrod, 2013). An example of such faulty correlational studies would be that many major battles occurred on a Sunday. This does not mean that Sunday was a causal factor. Therefore, it is very important not to have an inference about causation based on correlated studies simply as a standalone (Leedy & Ormrod, 2013). In every research, the method is defined as how it is undertaken and it, therefore, plays a significant role in enhancing the understanding of the research issue by utilizing the data collection methods. In order to effectively understand the (positive) interactions between the CEO and the board members in predicting better corporate performance, the research method be used will be that of a quantitative research method. Quantitative research is based on the statistical representation of the data collected and provides effective understanding of the research issue (Walter & Andersen, 2016). The effectiveness of the quantitative research method is based on the idea that it focuses on objective measurements through numerical or statistical analysis of the data collected and enhances the chances of generalizing research results across a given group in order to explain a given phenomenon. The justification for adopting this research method is based on the idea that it promotes the chances of determining the relationships between independent and dependent variables within a population. It provides the basis for exploring the relationship between the CEO and the board members as the basis for understanding their role in the overall organizational performance. Quantitative research method also tends to focus on convergent reasoning rather than adopting a divergent reasoning approach thus enhancing the chances of a variety of ideas in relation to the research problem.
