However, development of the world with industrial revolution replaced machinery for the brickmaking which in the past bricks were made by hand before 1885. Through the industrial revolution with the advancement of technology in this era, the interlocking block has started to emerge popular in recent years. An interlocking block is having several benefits in term of time, cost, and skilled labours required. Interlocking block are like puzzle pieces which typically consist of male and female unit block. The male unit with sticking out part is fitted into the female part which interlocks the block and they always align in a most perfect manner as possible without the used of mortar between block.

Rather than only the system, the materials used to produce the block will affect the performance and potential of the interlocking block. Since the design of structures is greatly affected by the self-weight loading. In other words with the reduction of self-weight for the materials, the level of design can be optimized. Lightweight concrete is basically classified into three categories which are lightweight aggregate concrete, aerated concrete and no-fine concrete.
