Interpret the trends seen from the data above and discuss in the context of key features of the broader economic policy, fiscal and monetary policy. Major sectors of the economy, most influential companies/banks, health of the banking sector, currency regime and its impact on exports/imports.
Collect five-year monthly data on stock return index, exchange rate against USD to analyse using appropriate methods discussed in the lectures:
Stock market returns in local currency and in USD
Stock market volatility local currency
Exchange rate volatility
Correlation between stock returns and exchange rate volatility
How the returns compare to MSCI EM Index returns over the same period
Provide discussion of capital markets by tabulating market capitalisation, number of stocks listed, turnover, returns, volatility, relative performance to its nearest competitor market. Relative valuation of the market, its fundamentals and future trajectory.
Provide a discussion of specific provisions regarding Foreign Institutional Investors investment and repatriation restrictions, if any. Tax on foreign dividends and capital gains.
Present a half page summary of prospects of the economy, its stock market, performance and returns prospects of specific industry and key risks.
