Assessment Task 1 (AT1) – Guide
This assessment involves you researching your Organisation or Team using four (4) areas/topics from your LMDP learning up till the end of week 3. The learning’s for LMDP up till the end of Week 3 are:
- Topic 1: Introduction to Organisational Behaviour  (Week 1)

- Topic 2: Behaviour & Self Awareness (Week 2)

- Topic 3: Workplace Emotions, Attitudes & Stress  (Week 3)

- Topic 4: Motivation  (Week 3)
How to Approach AT1:1/ Identify 4 areas/topics from within the 4 Topics covered till the end of Week 3.
For Example: You decide to choose the following areas/topics you wish to focus on for AT1:
 - Organisational Learning (from Topic 1) - Organisational Values (from Topic 2) - Emotions & Attitudes (from Topic 3) - Four Drive Theory of Motivation (from Topic 4)
  * Important:  The areas/topics you choose to focus on is up to you - you may choose an area/topic from each of the 4 Topics covered by the end of Week 3 (as shown in the example above), or you may decide to choose more than 1 area/topic from the 4 Topics covered by the end of Week 3  2/ Identify the respective concepts (models/theories) related to the 4 areas/topics you have chosen to focus on
For Example: If you choose to focus on the area/topic of Organisational Learning, you could use the ‘Four Organisational Learning Processes’ model shown in the textbook (McShane et al. 2019)
3/ Research & Evaluate your organisation or team using the concepts (models/theories) you’ve identified for each area/topic you are focusing on (for assistance with this speak with your Coach and review the Analytical Thinking Slides posted on the Discussion Forum)
* In postgraduate learning it is important to research & evaluate your organisation/team ‘through the eyes’ of the recognised concepts (models/theories) from the course, as this will provide a more objective perspective as to what is/is not occurring….and not merely writing from your own experience or your opinion which can often be subjective and biased.
4/ Your research & evaluation will provide you with a significant amount of information which you can use to discuss in your report and then make recommendations for improvement - as per the AT1  requirements in the LMDP Unit Guide.
Assessment Criteria:This contains 5 areas which are explained in detail in the LMDP Unit Guide (p. 19), and in summary are:
- Format (30%) - report structure/writing/referencing etc
- Concepts (20%) – discussion of the concepts/models/theories from your four (4) Topics
- Practical Application (20%) – providing discussion and examples of the concepts/models/theories being discussed
- Analytical Thinking (20%) – demonstrating how you’ve analysed and evaluated your organisation or team using the concepts/models/theories you’ve chosen to use.
You must demonstrate that you’ve analysed your organisation or team using LMDP models/concepts/theories, and not merely talk about them without any evidence of analysis and evaluation – otherwise there is no proof that what you are saying is credible.
To demonstrate Analytical Thinking consider this example - from Topic 2 you chose to use the Five Factor Personality Model to research and evaluate the personality of leaders/managers in your organisation or team. In your report you then discuss your findings for each of the 5 elements of this model (i.e. Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, Neuroticism, Openness to Experience & Extraversion). Alternatively, to save your word count you may complete your analysis (e.g. the Five Factor Personality Model) and provide more detailed findings in a table which you put in your Appendices, then in your report you discuss the key findings and insights of your analysis then refer the reader to the additional details in the Appendices (e.g. See Appendix A – Five Factor Personality Analysis for more details)
By doing this you have demonstrated that you have analysed the concept/model/theory you are discussing – this is Analytical Thinking.
* A key benefit of researching and evaluating the concepts/models/theories you’ve chosen using this approach is that you will uncover a lot of information concerning your organisation or team which enables you to:
- Write about this information related to the concepts/models/theories you are using (Assessment Criteria = Concept)
- It will provide you with many examples you can include in your report to support your discussion (Assessment Criteria = Practical Application)
- It demonstrates Analytical Thinking (Assessment Criteria = Analytical Thinking)
- It provides many insights to assist you to make robust Recommendations (Assessment Criteria = Recommendations)
- Recommendations (10%) – your recommendations to improve performance/output/quality etc

AT1 Example Report Format:A format is shown in the LMDP Unit Guide (see p.16-17) and below is an example which you might find helpful:
- Title Page (see example attached)- Personal Title Page (see example attached)- Executive Summary- Table of Contents- List of Abbreviations and Acronyms (if required – see details in Writing Reports for Assessment example posted on the Discussion Forum)- Table of Figures and Tables (if required – see details in Writing Reports for Assessment example posted on the Discussion Forum)- Introduction (this is an Introduction to the report, not an overview of your organisation)- Discussion and Findings (discuss your research and evaluation and what you found) For Example:
Brief Overview of the Organisation/Team
Area/Topic 1 Heading (give it a name [don’t call it Topic 1, 2 etc])- Discussion and Findings  (for example - the concept you have researched and are discussing is Organisational Learning)
Area/Topic 2 Heading - Discussion and Findings (for example - the concept you have researched and are discussing is Organisational Values)
Area/Topic 3 Heading - Discussion and Findings (for example - the concept you have researched and are discussing is Emotions & Attitudes
Area/Topic 4 Heading - Discussion and Findings (for example - the concept you have researched and are discussing is the Four Drive Theory of Motivation
(Please Note - the concepts (models/theories) shown above are for example purposes only - you decide which concepts (models/theories) you wish to use as you research your organisation or team)
