 Using your research and understanding of your chosen area of criminal law, analyse the nature and scope of the legal issue.
 Analyse the effectiveness of the current system and analyse the viewpoints of at least two groups of stakeholders
 Evaluate at least two legal alternatives of reform and their implications.
 Provide justification for your final recommendation/s to ensure just and equitable outcomes.

1. Jury/Judge Only Trials - The increasing use of the Internet and social media threatens the ability of jurors to remain impartial or unbiased. Evaluate the extent to which the current laws and processes surrounding Jury Trials is effectively balancing the rights of individuals and society’s need for order.
2. Sentencing Powers/Mandatory or Minimum Sentencing - A constant message in the media is that courts are ‘too soft on crime’, they let offenders ‘walk free’ and fail to protect the public.
Evaluate the extent to which the current laws and processes surrounding criminal sentencing is effectively balancing the rights of individuals and society’s need for order.
