Assignment Task

Section A: Psychometrics 

Section A is focused on the psychometrics part of the module. In this instance, refer to the work covered in Study Units 1 to 10.

Question 1

 In your own words, distinguish between psychometrics, assessment measures, psychological assessment, testing, and an assessment battery.

Create an example of a scale for each of the different levels of measurement. In your answer, indicate the level of measurement, provide a definition thereof, and illustrate an example thereof by creating an appropriate scale.

Consider the following scenarios and recommend which well-being measure in the work context would be the most suitable for each scenario.

a) You are approached by NPC Trading to determine why the absenteeism levels are so high. After talking with management, you realise that it seems like employees are experiencing stress. You decide to determine the causes of employee stress by means of a survey.

b) Company XYZ contacts you to conduct an intervention in the workplace. Employees are demotivated, fatigued, and often ill. After consulting with a sample of employees, you realise that their job demands (e.g. work load, role conflict) are high, and that they do not have the necessary job resources (e.g. supervisory support, advancement opportunities, job security) to combat the strain due to these demands. You decide to use a survey to determine the consequences of the strain on employees.
