1. The IoT Scenario An IoT project aims to create a flat that assists an elderly person with early dementia to live independently. This will be achieved by inputting sensors into the flat to enable monitoring of the elderly person. A carer will remotely look after the elderly person, visiting every week or more frequently when alerted by the IoT system that support and help is required. Specific functionality that has been selected is as follows: Requirement 1: Sleep: To monitor sleeping patterns to ensure the right amount of sleep (not too little and not too much) and also to detect any changes in the pattern of sleep. Requirement 2: Activity: To monitor that there is some activity in the flat to ensure that the person has not fallen or become ill. Requirement 3: External Door: To monitor the external door of the flat to know who is visiting the flat external door, and who is entering and leaving the flat. Depending on the stage of the dementia, it might be a concern if the elderly person left the flat. Requirement 4: Eating: To monitor that the elderly person is eating. Requirement 5: Routine Notifications: To notify the carer regularly with reports. Requirement 6: Emergency Notifications: To raise an alarm with the carer if an emergency situation is identified. To achieve these requirements, it is proposed to place sensors in a flat as follows: Design 1: Bed: A sensor pad on the bed that detects if the elderly person is in bed or not. Design 2: Lighting: Intelligent lighting that appropriately switches on and off as it detects movement. Design 3: A smart doorbell which records time-stamped audio and video of who is entering and leaving the flat. Design 4: Kitchen Cupboards: Sensors on the kitchen cupboards detecting when they are opened and closed. Bespoke reasoning software will have to be written by the project to collect and then analyse the sensor data, and update the carer as appropriate (In other words, notify at regular intervals that all is well or that some corrective action is needed, or notify immediately in case of an emergency being identified). The bespoke software can first be tested in simulation mode. Then, after that system testing in the real-life flat can take place once the sensors are installed. User acceptance testing can then occur to see if the system adequately supports the needs of a carer and an elderly person in the early stages of dementia. 2 . The Film Production Scenario Project management is a key task within film production. Film production scheduling can be quite a complicated task that involves coordinating activities for actors and numerous crew members across many different skills. To film a given scene in a film, the director’s wishes have to be captured, the script has to be ready and approved, the location has to be chosen (studio or on location), the set has to be designed and approved, and then built and assembled with its props (bought, hired or specially created by the crew or subcontractors). The camera positions and the lighting have to be set up. Camera checks are needed to see how the set appears when filmed. At key points during construction, approval has to be obtained from the director to ensure everything meets their requirements. Production is in overall charge and has to find the financial backing for the film. Production oversees the film production and includes the First Assistant Director, who is in effect the project manager as they create the schedules, and are in charge of the scheduling throughout the filming. The financial budget is the overall responsibility of the Line Producer. The Line Producer also agrees all the contracts involved. The Art Department consists of the Designer, the Art Directors, Graphic Designers, Construction and the Props department. It can also include third-party Animals and Vehicle units, if there are animals or vehicles used in the film. The Designer and Art Directors design the sets and Construction builds the sets. The film script is the key document setting out the requirements. Each department is given a copy of the script and each department breaks down the script in order to plan what work they have to carry out. The script determines the actors’ lines, the locations required, the number of cameras and many other things. The departments have to work within their allocated financial budget and to the allocated timescales. The First Assistant Director has to engage with all the different departments and get feedback about their needs and include that feedback into the schedules. A major consideration for scheduling the filming is the actors’ availability, but also all the departments involved in filming have to be scheduled. For filming the scene, the actors have to be available on set, rehearsed and ready to film the scene, which means in costumes and with make-up completed. All the departments have to have representatives on set during filming. There has to be a standby art director on every set during filming as well as continuity, script writers, camera, lighting, sound, construction, props, casting and catering. Barcode scanning at checkout is used to track customer sales, and the information collected is transferred from the back-office servers at the retail stores to the head office information systems. The head office information systems then determine the restocking required for each of the retail stores and the data transferred to the relevant depot. The depots then load up their lorries using the picking lists sent from head office and the lorries with their loaded produce are dispatched to the supermarket stores. On arrival at the store, the products are stored and the store inventory updated. The products are placed for sale on the store shelves as and when restocking is required. 3b) Considering Value Stream Mapping (VSM), identify one of the processes in your answer to Question 1a) as being of high value, and give your reasons.
