• Mrs Pham is at high risk of disease transmission, examine the principles of infection prevention you will need to observe in the role of the circulating nurse. In your answer relate specifically to the case study and identify implications for Mrs. Pham if these principles are not maintained.

Part C refers to the case study and the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit nursing role. After reading the case study, answer the following:
• Mr Pham has been handed over to your care in the PACU. Mrs Pham was extubated in the theatre but remains unconscious. She has a Hudson mask insitue with 8L 02 therapy. Identify any risks factors specific to Mrs Pham that may cause her to develop a respiratory complication in the PACU, provide a rationale for the risk factors identified.
• Mrs Pham is complaining of severe nausea, abdominal cramping and has vomited 100 mls of bile. Explain how you would manage Mrs Pham’s post operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and provide a rationale for your management plan. Include a discussion of the risk factors related specifically to Mrs. Pham and potential complications if Mrs. Pham’s PONV is not relieved.
