Question 1

(a) Explain object oriented software in terms of the fundamental concepts you studied in topic 2 of unit 4.

(b) (b) Demonstrate how those concepts facilitate the design, testing and maintenance of software systems.

Question 2

Read the following description of a system domain and produce an initial class diagram, including generalisations (super classes), associations and multiplicities, but do not include any class members (variables or methods). You should base your model solely on the scenario provided, but if you feel it is necessary to make any assumptions, you should include them, and your reasons for making them, in your answer.

System domain
This is an initial (and clearly oversimplified) description of a system domain involving students studying modules at a higher education institute. Each student at the college must be registered for at least one, and no more than four, of the modules that the college presents. A successful registration lasts for 12 months. Each module may have up to fifty registered students. Each module holds at least twenty teaching sessions (which are either seminars or lectures). Lecturers are appointed to teach up to five modules in a semester. A module must have at least one lecturer but may have more. Lecturers can only present lectures and lead seminars held by
the modules that they are employed to teach. A lecturer leads at most one seminar in each presentation of the module but can present any number of lectures. Lectures are presented by a single lecturer but seminars can be led by more than one lecturer. For each teaching session a record is kept of the students who attend it. A student
cannot attend a seminar in a module he or she is not registered for.

Question 3

This is an extract from the structural model of a simple airline booking system.

The state of the system at the relevant time is as shown in the following object diagram. (You will realise that there would be other objects and more complex variables in a real system, but you should answer this question based on the simplified extracts of the class structure and object states shown here).

(a)  Draw a sequence diagram to show the objects, messages and answers involved in the use case:
List all the flights on which an identified passenger is booked.

(b)  Draw a sequence diagram to show the objects, messages and answers involved in the use case: Book a flight for a passenger

IT Systems Analysis and Design Assignment Help

The user identifies a passenger (passenger2) and a flight (flight4). If the flight has already been booked by the passenger, or if the flight is already fully booked, then false
is returned. Otherwise the system records a booking for the passenger on the flight, and returns true. Using the current state of the system and the given parameters, draw a sequence diagram to show the objects, messages and answers involved in executing this use case.

For the purposes of the diagram you should assume the User Interface sends the message book(pass2,flt4) to a coordinating object (airline) in the core system, and that the conclusion of the use case is a boolean reply (true if the booking is made, false if it is not) to the User Interface.
