Highlights
Problem Description/Scenario
We have been asked to analyze the data requirements and develop a database system to keep information for equipment hiring companies in the country.
The aim of this system is to monitor the hiring of equipment to clients. There are many companies in the country, and each company has at least three branches across the country. Where each branch has staff including the branch manager who is responsible for the overall work in the branch. Each company has a unique code, unique name and an owner (CPR, name). A staff can work in more than one branch. However, a manager manages only one branch. For each staff, we store staff CPR, name and office telephone number. Each company also has senior technicians who are responsible of supervising the work of allocated groups of staff.
Each branch has a number (unique within the company), address, and telephone(s). Each branch has a stock of equipment for hiring. Each equipment is identified by its number and the branch it’s located at, has a description, and number of items of this equipment in the branch It is important to store the data of current clients in the database, where each client has a unique client ID, name, address, country and country international code. Current clients can hire as many equipment as they wish. For each hiring agreement between the company and the client of a given equipment, the date need to be recorded.
Task No. Description
1. Use the above information to build an E-R diagram. Note that there is some missing information in the scenario. To complete the task, you can make reasonable assumptions about the missing information. All the assumption made by you must clearly be mentioned in the report before making the ER diagram.
2. Map the ERD to relations. Identify the primary and foreign keys for each relation.
3. For each of the relations created, indicate its normal form. If the relation is not in the 3NF, decompose it into 3NF relations.
4. Create the tables (relational schema) using ORACLE SQL.
5. Insert suitable and realistic data into each relation (at least 5 tuples per relation).
6. Write the following queries in SQL:
a. List the information of all branches located at “MANAMA”.
b. List all clients (ID and names) who have hired EquipmentNo:101.
c. List the manager name of branchNo=1 and company code=102.
7. Write another two SQL queries that uses the following concepts:
1. Group by
2. Join
