Q4. For a digital communication system, 

  1. if the energy per bit is 12 dB and the noise level is 8 dB, what is the spectral efficiency?
  2. If the channel bandwidth increases, what will happen to the spectral efficiency and Eb/N0?
  3. In a binary communication system with an asymmetric transmitter, bits 0 and 1 are generated with 0.4 and 0.6 probabilities respectively. The receiver receives the bitstream of data through a noisy channel with the noise mean of zero and variance of 0.2. If the bit amplitudes for 1 and 0 are respectively 0.75 and -0.75, what will be the BER?

 

Q5. Explain the concepts and the advantages/disadvantages of packet switching versus circuit switching in a wireless communication network. 

Q6. Delay is an important parameter in assessing the quality of a network. Describe various causes of delay and explain how long delays can cause information packet loss.

Assume we have 10 servers, located in Europe, each can transmit with a bitrate of 100 Mbps and their corresponding 10 receivers, located in the US, each can receive the data at the rates of 80 Mbps. The wireless channel between the two continents can support up to 0.9 Gbps. Using a simple calculation mention what the throughput of the whole system is. 

Q8. Explain the use of cyclic-redundancy codes (CRC) in the computer communication network. Then, consider the 13-digit data of “1110011010110”; find the codeword to be sent to the receiver if the generator is “1010”.
