Scenario You have a new client, a small to medium enterprise. The business has realized that with the growth they have experienced over the last couple of years they need a bespoke Inventory management system to be engineered that will best suit their requirements. They have looked into off-the-shelf solutions but deem them too generic and therefore unsuitable. Eventually they would like to develop the new software into a full-blown ERP system (which means more work for your company if they are satisfied with the outcome of this new project) but for now their requirements are limited to management of raw materials and product. As a minimum they need the inventory management system (as used by managers and other personnel) to do the following:

1. Track which materials make up which products (a Bill of Materials) as well as keep track of both product and raw material stock.

2. The system shall directly link reference materials that form part of the assembly/construction/baking process.

3. Stock control will track: ? Part Description ? Part number ? Photo of part ? Stock Quantity ? Location ? Auto re-order option ? Supplier Name ? Supplier part# ? MOQ ? Safety stock ? Lead time ? Price

4. Provide component (not customer) order history and also produce charts for price/order volume history.

5. Produce a (daily/weekly/monthly/annual) report suitable for management review and meetings

6. People also need the ability to issue stock from stores as and when product needs to be produced.

7. Security measures must be in place to regulate which personnel have access to different parts of the application. IE certain report generation is for management eyes only, and only store clerks may draw stock down or issue it for production.

8. They also require the ability for store keepers to efficiently conduct a stocktake and/or update stock quantities, location, item photo etc. An annual stock take can involve any one of a number of people off the factory floor too.

9. Although the initial project is strictly limited to inventory control (IE no customer or employee management etc.) you should be cognisant of such requirements and how they may potentially fit into your product in future.
