On receiving the letter Elizabeth sends a postcard to James on 12 December 2019 which reads "will you accept E2,900 for the van?". The postcard was correctly addressed and posted at 12.50 pm using the first-class stamp ensuring a next day arrival. But later the same day, Elizabeth changes her mind and sends a letter at 3.00 pm to James accepting his offer of £3,000. The letter was correctly addressed to Dr James Cork, 346 Board Lane, Herefordshire, HR2 7PP, and sent on time for a next day arrival. The postcard and letter arrive simultaneously at James's house on 13 December 2019. James reads the postcard first.
